US Presidents- Must See???

I find Theodore Roosevelt intriguing as well.

They do discuss him in the Hall of Presidents as well as his Cousin FDR. Theodore Roosevelt also has a great section in the American Adventure with the Naturalist John Muir.

Either way she will be happy. I am a history buff and think that they are both worth seeing.

Thanks so much for this info! I had no idea they had a TR section in American Adventure. That's awesome! I'm sensing another Disney trip in the near future... It is educational, right?!?!:thumbsup2:rotfl:

That is really great, Miranda, that she has such an interest at this young age. I always enjoyed historical things at a young age, and now as a guy at an old age, I still enjoy historical aspects, including the presidents. Nice to see you are encouraging her too. She will definitely enjoy HoP.

Thanks so much, Dan!:wave2:
So cool you're interested in it too. I must admit, I never was really into it, but we have found out some very cool and interesting stuff.::yes::

He's usually near the entrance to the theater, but he'll move aorund the rotunda sometimes. Some people here know his name, but I don't remember it. He is easy to engage, and loves sharing his knowledge.

Thanks so much! I told DD5 about him as soon as I picked her up from school. She immediately came up with two questions to ask him to see if she can stump him.
"What was Teddy Roosevelt's daughter's snake's name?"
"What was Ronald Reagan's favorite flavor of jellybean?"

She is so excited! Hopefully we can find him! Thanks so much for this info.:thumbsup2

HOP is one of those attractions that are kind of polar (like/dislike) based on your personality.

If your daughter has seen it on youtube, and likes it, then I think she'll love the real thing. I'm very glad to have seen it, and have done it each of our 4 trips (I think). We go to WDW in Sept, so HOP has also been a very nice break from the heat too. Many on the Dis have commented that it's a great place for a power nap. :):)

However, it is not an action attraction, and for those that aren't all that impressed by history and patriotic themes, it can make for a long/boring show. the animatronics are very impressive though.

All 7 in our group have very much enjoyed it, though it's far from the first attraction we head to at the MK. :);)

Dan

I really think she'll enjoy it. I would have never guessed that she would one day enjoy this type of thing, but she is definitely her own person and likes very unique things (which I'm very thankful for)!

I'm glad y'all have enjoyed it!!! I went to it years ago and never with a child, but I really think she'll be so excited to see it in person that she may beg to do it more than once, haha!::yes::

The Hall of Presidents is my absolute favorite attraction and a must-do for me every visit. I may be in the minority, but I just love it.

That's wonderful to hear! Hey, if you are in the minority, that just means it won't be too crowded in HoP, right?!?!:rotfl:

We popped in on our last park day to cool off and rest a bit. Was so surprised at how much we liked it. Even got teary eyed.

I don't know you're experience with DW but if she likes all things history and not just presidents. Don't miss carousel of progress in tomorrowland. That is my favorite attraction and it's awesome!!! I love HoP too and think it's awesome someone so young is interested. Are we hearing about a future president??? ;)

Ohhhh I looooove the CoP!!!!! Love it! Love it!!! :)
For her Pre-K graduation she is going to tell everyone she will be running for President as soon as she turns 35 so we'll see... Hahaha!!!!

So nice to see young kids into history. :thumbsup2

I do think another trip to Epcot should be in the future. ;)

A little trivia:

Does your daughter know what 3 presidents lived in Indiana?

The HoP animatronics are impressive. The costumes of the most recent presidents were actually worn by the presidents themselves. President Clinton is wearing his Ironman watch; FDR has braces on his legs under his trousers. The costumes of the older presidents were created in the same fashion as they were over a century ago. I understand the presidents are also actual size.

My kids enjoyed a Disney Youth Program called The American Adventure. We went back stage and walked among the animitronics. The historian responsible for their upkeep was present and full if interesting information. It was amazing; we could have spent hours in conversation with the CM.

I'm not sure if the program is still available. It was free with discounted tickets. Google Disney Youth Programs.

I always find it so strange when I click on a thread like this and find almost everyone (here, the majority from post #4 on) answering a different question than the one the OP asked.

Do people just assume they know what the question is, so they don't bother reading it?

I'm glad the Hall of Presidents is already a must-do for you, OP. Leave a little extra time before the show to roam around the pre-show area. There are some cool artifacts in there, as well as a nice version of the Presidential seal.

And ^this^ had something to do with OP's question?

Another Trivia you could ask:

Here in NJ, we have a park called "Seven President's Park". Who were the 7 Presidents?

Seven Presidents Park is an oceanfront park in the town of Long Branch, New Jersey, USA, maintained by the Monmouth County Park System. It is named after U.S. Presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James A. Garfield, Chester A. Arthur, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, and Woodrow Wilson, all of whom spent time in the area's resorts. President Grant declared Long Branch the nation's "Summer Capital" in 1869.

Wow...We must start a Disney Kids who love Presidents club! My DS (7) LOVES everything and anything about Presidents and American History. His passion started when he was about 4 when he memorized all of them in order from his President table matte. HOP is a definite and as PP said make sure to talk to CM there as it's fun to compare trivia questions. LT is also a good place to eat. There are some nice shops in Liberty square that have history related items - make sure to look in them.

There is also a person ins Liberty Square who does charactures and DS had one done of him as President Lincoln.

Though not President related - your daughter may also like the Disney exhibit in HS. DS enjoyed looking at exhibits and watching the movie.

Someone was asking about books..there's a series of Biographies for kids known as "Who Books.." They cover many different historical people including many Presidents. My son loves these books and enjoys reading them. Do you know they have President and First Lady coloring books? A good place to look is Amazon...I will search "presidents" or a specific presidents (his favorite is Grant) and you'd be surprised at that things you find...from books to bobble heads! We even go him Abraham Lincoln band-aids.

Too bad you can't get to EPCOT..there's a nice exhibit in the American Pavillion (along with the show) plus DS enjoys looking in the shops.

Have a great trip.

I find it equally strange that someone would criticize this, when the OP is the most active participant in the thread, even after it had gotten slightly tangential to the original question. OP seems to have no problem with it. You're free to read other threads, ignore this one, etc.

Personally, I've enjoyed reading the responses.

OP, one way to keep DD from losing interest in CoP is to maybe have her figure out which president was in office during the times of each segment.

When she gets older (at least a teenager), she might enjoy Neal Gabler's Walt Disney biography. I'm reading it right now, for the third time. :rotfl2: Obviously it focuses on Walt Disney rather than other people, but there is a lot of anecdotal information in there about American politics in general from about 1900-1960, as it related to Disney's home life and to his studio.

Sorry if I'm not sticking 100% to the original post. :guilty:

We also have the Church of The Seven Presidents here in Long Branch. All seven of the Presidents listed above visited the Church at one time or another. President Garfield was brought here to Long Branch by train when he was shot. A special railroad siding was constructed to bring him from the station to his "cottage" at the oceanfront. The timbers used in constructing the railroad were later used to construct a small tea house, which now stands on the grounds of the Seven Presidents church, which is currently being restored to its former glory. If you're ever in the area, stop by and see it!
