US/IOA with 6 year old girl

Hello everyone!

We'll be in Orlando the week of March 26th and are thinking of visiting Universal Studios. I don't know much about it though as we've never been there before. What would you recommend we see/do there with our 6 year old DD? Can we do both US/IOA in one day? Are both included in one ticket price or is it more expensive to do both?

Its hard to do both in one day unless you are planning on make some hard decisions on skipping things.If your DD is less adventurous and you plan on skipping most of the thrill rides and scarier shows, it is more doable.Also IOA has the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which if you are interested in can eat up alot of time since it is JAMMED 100% of the time.There are often long waits just to get INTO that section of the park .Each park is a separate admission unless you buy a 1 day Park to Park ticket. a 1 day base ticket allows you admission to Universal OR IOA not both.

Our kids now 8 &9yo have been going to US and IOA since they were babies. They actually like it better than Disney (though not by much). I would recommend doing everything that doesn't have a height restriction for your DD.

I agree that doing both in one day would be difficult especially if you have never been there. You would want to take your time and enjoy the sights.

Yes, as they are different parks there are two tickets required unless you get a power/preferred pass.

As for things a DD6 could do:

For IoA, our DD6 loved everything in Seuss Landing, Flight of the Hippogriff (a kiddie coaster) in Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the Jurassic Park Discovery Center and Pteranadon Flyers in Jurassic Park, and Storm Force Accelatron (a teacups spinner) at Marvel Superhero Island.

For the Studios, DD6 liked Shrek 4D, Jaws, Men In Black, Woody Woodpecker Nuthouse Coaster (another kiddie coaster) and the Animal Antics show.

Between the two parks, there are also about 5 play areas that she could have spent the entire day in.

There are a few other things a DD6 might want to do, but ours is not very adventurous. Even so, we found there was plenty for her to do and see.

Don't forget about Camp Jurassic inside Jurassic Park which is a terrific play ground for kids, or even some immature adults , I believe there are a few other things some of the other posters may post as well, just drawing a blank at the moment.

But to give you my opinion on that, 2 days is always better than 1 IMO, since it is 2 separate large parks, but if you can only manage to do 1 you can make the best of it with the park hopper type ticket.

Thank you everyone. DD really likes Dr. Seuss (books, movies, TV shows) so I think we'll try IOA for sure this go round and take it from there.

On our last trip, my oldest was 6.5 (boy). The other kids were a nearly 4 year old girl and an 11 month old. We went during the quiet season and HP was not yet open. US was so-so for my kids. They enjoyed it but we ran out of things to do by dinner time. However, despite no crowds and no HP yet, we ran out of time to do IOA in one day. So, I totally agree with doing IOA at that age instead of US.

If she likes Dr Suess remember to look at the times guide for when the characters are doing walkabout/dance/storytime and table visits in circus McGurkus - that was a total surprise to us and the girls met Thing 1 and 2, Cat in the hat,Sam I am and the Grinch - they came to all the tables - even though it is just a counter service restaurant!!

The Seuss stuff is generally well done. It just saddens me when I see it because Seuss was very anti-licensing. I think his body was still warm when his widow basically licensed everything to everyone, and even re-released books he deliberately did under another name (Theo LeSieg, another play on his real name) as Dr. Seuss titles.

It's sad... but, again, Seuss Landing is terrific in spite of that.
