US icedancers Belbin & Agosto

The Canadian team has now officially withdrawn. So sad.
I'm so sorry to hear that they've had to withdraw. They were, hands down, my favorite couple last night. That was a terrible fall she took. I hope she heals up physically soon, but emotionally will probably be harder for both of them. :(

Tammi, are you the mom of one or both of those champion ice dancers in your sig?

Did anyone notice....when the "powder puff" outfitted young lady finished her routine, several feathers from her skirt floated to the ice. I would think those loose feathers could trip subsequent skaters. Isn't there some kind of rule prohibiting costumes that could "shed"? Those little feathers just couldn't be obvious enough to the kids assigned to clear the ice of flowers and stuffed animals, especially if they are not brightly colored.

Well, congratulations to your son, and to you, Tammi! That's quite an accomplishment, and I know kids don't get there by themselves. :cheer2:

Well, Canada still can take pride in Tanith Belbin even though she is skating for the US. There sure are a lot of athletes who have switched citizenship in this olympics.

No, there isn't any rule about this. In fact, even the stones you see all over the costumes can come off pretty easily. The skaters have 2 minutes to get into position for their program and most use the time to skate around checking the ice for beads, feathers and anything else that might have fallen off. It's also part of the job responsibility for the referee of the event, to make sure there isn't anything left on the ice.

LiteBrite, thanks. It definitely takes lots of family involvement and support. There isn't any day of the week that doesn't contain something skating related. The 2010 Olympic games are probably not feasible, but they have 2014 in the back of their minds. They are more excited right now about performing an exhibition in front of Dick Button next month  and they hope he likes their costumes ;) .

missypie Here is my question: Where are the trainers or other medical personnel in figure skating? If a football player or basketball player has a bad fall said:
I know that when the Chinese pairs skater fell in her knee there was a team of people there to meet her off the ice (the had white helmets on) so I guess if it had been bad enough they would have come onto the ice to get her... :confused3

I know this is :offtopic: Does anyone know what the Russian couple in white skated to? It sounded really familiar but I couldn't quite place it.

I think you might mean the Ukraine team. They skated to The Feeling Begins by Peter Gabriel. It may sound familiar because Navka & Kostamorov (tonights gold medal winners) skated to it in 2003 and Grischuk and Platov in 1997. I enjoyed Grischuk and Platov the best. They did a beautiful job interpreting the music and the Arabian passion really came through. I was alittle disappointed by the performance of Grushina and Goncharov tonight. I didn't feel like there was a story there and their choreography didn't do much to enhance the Arabian music.
