US Dollar looking up again!

As I'm going to Florida in September I'll keep looking at all the rates until hopefully I can get a good rate. I also hold onto any travellers Cheques and cash that we don't use that way I always have some for the next year.

i am not that old enought but once it was $4-£1 now that has a nice ring about it.Think it was when £ was on gold standard

Do you know when that was? I remember a boyfriend in the early 70s who referred to a dollar when he meant a half crown, I think (25p in 'new' money! - yes, I'm pre-decimal/pre-historic LOL!). It wasn't significant then (apart from the boyfriend being pretentious ;) ), but would that have been about the right time?

Its still a term used here (Leeds) in the Wholesale flower industry. If they say something is a Dollar its 25p, I never knew why until now.:goodvibes

when i used to get some mony for the sweet shop when i was a kid, dad would give us 25p and say "heres a dollar go get something"thats why it always stuck in my mind.Last time pound was $4 was 19th sep 1949,overnight it was devalued and whent to $2.80

... but it's interesting to know it's a phrase still in use today :)

Just saw breaking news on this on Sky - it has hit the $2 mark again :thumbsup2. It is the first time since the beginning of May.

Time for transferring some cash into the $ account I think!

We are due to pay off our balance today using our Nationwide Credit Card. I wonder what rate we'll receive.

Its hovering around $2-£1, You might get just under or just over depending when the transaction is carried out.
I am waiting for some quotes coming thru for a cruise, I want to get the deposit paid while its a good rate.:thumbsup2

Popped through $2 / £1 for a little while this morning. Glad I fixed the mortgage last year !!

I just fixed mine for 2 years a few month back, looks like they are going up again next month. Only pay £182/month so does not make great difference, talking to someone on Saturday he is paying £2,500/month. He is panicing like mad about every rise.
