Hi,

does anyoneknow if it is def ok to bring baby food pouches/jars and ready made/powdered formula from the UK into Orlando?

Somethingis telling me that you can't bring anything containing dairy, meat, fruit or veg which would pretty much rule everything out!

Can't find any def info on net and really want to keep as much the same for my daughter (7 months).

Thanks,

Christie

ps - I have also posted this on the UK planning board but thought this would be a better place to put it - hope you don't mind!

I would check your airport for what you can bring in your carry on
as for bring stuff in your suitcase I think as long as its new sealed and processed its fine
we were able to bring formula (powder to the US)
the first time we traveled DH had dd and her bottle of breast milk they made him take a drink of every bottle of it in security

Here is the link to the US Customs website regarding bringing food into the US. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/arriving_travelers.xml

It appears that the prohibition is on agricultural products. I would think that you can't really transport raw meat so they haven't addressed that.

As for baby food/formula I don't see anything there. You may want to print out this information and take it with you.

Now, clearing customs is one thing but going through 'airport security' is something different. Airport security for the general public is handled by TSA /Homeland Security. Their rules may be different. If you have to go through security (verify this with others on the UK board) then of course there is the rule regarding liquids. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm

I know this isn't an exact or precise answer but I hope it help. If you think you comply with the information but are not sure, print out the page you are working from and take it with you. If you have any problems as for a supervisor!

Best Wishes!

I brought a bunch of packaged foods (not baby food, just old favorites :-) through US customs from Germany. We had to go through agricultural customs separately (because we'd been to a couple farms). The agent even joked with me "that looks yummy, that looks good..." As long as it's prepackaged, it's fine. (No fresh/dried fruits, veggies, meats...) As someone said though, anything liquid can cause problems. Many folks had bought liquor at duty free shops when they left the country. You can carry as far as customs, but then you go through US security. Unless you can repack it into your checked baggage- you can't take it.

Baby food, I'd think they'd let you take enough for your actual plane ride... but any more than that would likely have to be in your checked bag.

Thanks - I could only find the same pages. Nothing to actually say yes or no to baby food! I'm sure its fine as millions of people travel with babies every year.

Not worried about leaving the uk and stuff in hand luggage as know the rule but would be gutted if I got fined for bring in processed baby food or formula!

I'll keep looking lol ...

Not surprisingly, this question gets asked quite a bit at Orlando Intl., so often that it is covered in the airport FAQ section:

Frequently Asked Questions ...

Animal Products/Foodstuffs

Can I bring animal products/foodstuffs into the U.S.?

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Veterinary Services (VS) regulates the importation of animals and animal-derived materials to ensure that exotic animal and poultry diseases are not introduced into the United States.

For more information please see the APHIS web site at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/animals/animal_import/animal_imports_anproducts.shtml

Baby Formula

Can I bring baby formula into the country?

According to the US Department of Agriculture, the majority of milk products originating from countries affected with Foot and Mouth Diseases are prohibited; however, Plant Protection and Quarantine has been instructed to provide some exceptions including "Milk and milk products intended for use by infants or very young children are enterable (into the U.S.) if in a reasonable or small quantity for several days' use".

For more information on this topic please visit the USDA Animal Product Manual website. The address is: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ppq/manuals/pdf_files/APM_Chapters.htm

For information specific to importation of milk and other dairy products in passenger baggage, please see: Importations of Milk and Other Diary Products on Page A - 1- 5: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ppq/manuals/pdf_files/APM in PDF/A-A-Entry StatusFinal.pdf

I've met a number of flights containing infant Korean adoptees. Just about all the escorts had powdered milk, and most had half a bottle or so already mixed.

To the best of my knowlege it hasn't been a problem.

AFAIK, Korea isn't a country that has had outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease among dairy herds -- the UK unfortunately is.

Sorry, I completely missed the reason for the question.

Having one of those days.

Infants Powdered formulas (i.e cow and gate, sma etc) are allowed through US customs we took it through last november without any issues, the only restrictions come with taking bottles of sterlized water through security, gatwick would only allow 3 bottles the US would only allo wus to take 2.With regards to the liquid formulas (ready prepared stuff) this is also allowed but has to be unopened.
