Can anyone tell me where to find a conversion chart for US dress and shoe sizes? Also, are children's clothes sized by age or height?

Women's dress sizes are 2 sizes down from ours ie if you are a size 12 here you are an 8 there (nice huh?) Not sure about the blokes! Generally buy my DH t-shirts with the usual S, M, L and so on. As in 'She went on holiday and all I got was this t-shirt...' ;)

Shoe sizes are generally 2 up from UK (not metric) ie a 31/2 UK is 5 1/2 USA.

As I recall from buying kids clothes it can vary as much as here - although age in years seems popular. The Gap still go with all the P/XP/ XXL and so on. I find US kids clothes a smaller fit than here except Osh'Kosh which seem huge.

If I find a link for a chart I'll post it.

That's true Goofyfish, I'm not sure if something changed but it does seem to be 2 sizes down now. Anyone know? I'm a 12 or 10 here and a 6 or 8 in the US.

And then they have the petite sizes and inbetween sizes like 11 and so on - most confusing...

Maybe it's whatever fits once you get somwhere close to your size?! Like here :)

Thanks for the info. Size 8 dress size huh? I like the sound of that! Not so sure about having size 8 feet though. ;)

I want to make sure any shopping time I'm allowed, (not a popular pastime with the rest of my family) is not wasted in checking sizes - every minute counts!!

I've always gone down just one size, and that has worked for me, but best to try things on.

kids clothes are very small - ours tend to say 1-2 on them, there's will just say 2, so it's not from 2, it's until 2 if that makes any sense? I bought my dd a few outfits when she was 1 and they hardly lasted anytime at all, I couldn't work it out until I compared the measurements of the garments

I'm other people just went one clothes size down. I'm a size 14 and usually buy a 12 out there, although they are a bit big on me. I was beginning to worry I'd gone up to a size 16 over here!
