The last time we were in the US, I couldnt use my hair straightners, mobile phone charger etc with a us adapter (arent the voltages different over there?)

I am planning on buying a digital camera, will I not be able to charge the battery, or is a way to get around this?

Thanks!

you shouldnt have a problem using a us adaptor for charging up things at all, although your straightners will not warm up the same unless they are dual voltage.
we charge up the camcorder, mobile phones, batteries etc with no probs!
The usa voltage is 110

99% off UK electrical items will work in US no problem, just need a £1.50 adaptor to turn your 3 pin into 2 for US sockets.
Only things that wont work are items that say on the plug or power pack 240v.
Just about everything now should say something like 100~240v meaning it will charge on both our 240v network and US 110v network.

Only problem we have ever has is a Motorola V220 mobile phone. everything else chargers no problem.

I bought a step-up transformer and everything worked really well, including my ghd's.

I've also got a step-down transformer for charging things back in the UK that I've bought in the US.

Thanks for that guys!! I shall buy my new camera

I bought the kids DS's when we went over last year, after breaking the stepdown charger I bought I had a brainwave and realised the voltage for charging them is the same as my built-in shaver socket at home, voila no need for other adapters
