US Airways day of change fee question

US Airways has a $75 fee to go on an earlier flight the same day. How many people have tried this and had been able to get their flight changed same day? If they weren't able to get it changed, Were they able to go standby on an earlier flight? Flying USairways on the 28th and don't want to pay an additional $150 fee to go two hours earlier now.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the $75 fee was to fly standby on an earlier flight not get a confirmed seat on the plane.......

I have no experience but if you want to do it you should both call in advance to request a rebooking and also go to the airport with plenty of time to stand by. All the while not agreeing to pay the change fee or any other amount.

If your original flight is showing a delay, even due to weather, your chances of standing by early for free should actually be enhanced although not certain* if there is space available.

Delta does not have an early standby procedure but will book you on the earlier flight for a fee but without fare adjustment if it is the same day just a few hours in advance and they estimate that no one will be bumped.

I travel a lot on US for business, and most times when I get on an earlier flight it is during periods when they issue a weather alert so they waive the fee for the earlier flight (I just did this a couple days ago out of LaGuardia). I believe the same day change is $75 for a confirmed seat (when the flights aren't full/oversold), but if the flight is full they will put you on standby without the charge. I think there is a 6 hour window for moving to an earlier flight (6 hours before your scheduled departure time, with same number of connections).

Thanks alot California Dreamin. I don't think the flights are going to be sold out due to it being a Thursday morning in three weeks and about two dozen seats are available on the 10 AM flight instead of the Noon flight.
