US air...how does the 1 stop work when flying?

Have been lucky to fly non stop so far. My times this trip are only offered on US air with 1 stop. How does this work with the luggage? Do you usually change planes? How does it work?

Typically you will need to change aircraft and go to another gate. Rarely are you lucky enough not to have to change - if you go to the website and check your flight number for TODAY you can see the gates. It will be an INDICATOR only - they will change on your date of travel. They will transfer the luggage for you, except in a few cases when flying internationally.

What airport are you flying through? there are many US Air flyers here who can give advice.

Usually if you have 2 different flight numbers then you will have to change planes. If it keeps the same fl # then you may just stop and pick up more passengers. At least that's been my past experience.

How does this work with the luggage?

There is nothing you need to do to have your luggage find its way to the second flight in your itinerary. You should find it at baggage claim at your final destination.

Personally, I'd watch them tag the luggage to make sure it's going to your final destination. I do this even for non-stop flights.

If you are lucky like I am this time you will stay on the same plane but that is not always the case. You will most likely have to change planes at the stop, then you will have to check in at the gate to get your new boarding pass, your luggage will make it to the final destination via the lucky people who are working that day in baggage and will transfer the luggage to your next flight.......you should have your luggage when you land at MCO and if you are using ME you won't see until later in the day......yes I would say direct flights are nicer but hey where's the spirt for adventure on connecting flight.......You will do fine, if when you get to connecting airport and not sure what to do, just do what we all do from time to time ask an employee where is this gate #

No, you do not. You will get all boarding passes for every leg of your trip at the first check in.

A direct flight can have stops and plane changes. You are confusing a direct flight with a non-stop flight.

Indeed, there are really four different types of routings:
1) non-stop,
2) direct/no aircraft change,
3) direct/aircraft change, and
4) connection.

Of course #3 and #4 are basically the same passenger experience, but there is no way to tell the difference between #2 and #3 in the flight schedule -- indeed, you may not even know until after you board your flight that there is a change of aircraft (which is a real PITA for the unaccompanied minor travel programs).

If you are ever on a flight from say, Boston to Orlando, and your routing is Boston -- Chicago -- Dallas -- Orlando, then you will learn the importance of booking at the very least, a direct flight, if you can't get a non-stop.
