DD has been potty trained for a little over a month now. Towards the end of last week she started having a couple of accidents a day. I chalked it up to excitement of the Grandparents being here.
Then the day after they left she has started having peeing in her panties all the time.

When she does say she has to pee she seems really hesitant to go to the potty. she often takes a long time to go. And then it is only a little. Then a short time later she has an accident. I

I don't know if this could possibly be a urinary tract infection? Or if she is just reacting to me not feeling well (with the miscarriage) and Grandparents leaving?

The only symptoms she seems to have of a UTI is that she is very hesitant to go on the potty. And she grabs herself and kind of "cries" pee-pee. This might be communicating pain I am not sure. And I have also noticed her urine has a stronger odor than usual. Otherwise she is her normal self.

Does this just sound like regression or a control issue? Or possibly a UTI?

Thanks

I would make her a doctor's appointment. If you have noticed an odor and she is having frequent urination, it doesn't hurt to get it checked out. Does she have a fever at all? Even a slight fever? UTI's seem like relatively normal things now but if left untreated can really ravage your body. I would get her checked out just to be sure. JMHO :)

Normally with a UTI, she'd have a fever. Has she taken any bubble baths lately? Bubble baths are bad about causing UTI's. Maybe you can encourage her to drink more water. Does she like cranberry juice?

If she's like my dd, it's more of a regression thing. When I thought she was potty trained, she decided she wasn't.

Sounds like a possibility. If it were just a regression thing, it wouldn't change the odor. Sounds like her urine is "hot"; is that a symptom? If she says her back hurts, it's probably a UTI. I'd definitely call the doctor.

My DD didn't and that's why I didn't catch it until way after I should have. We had to increase fluids, especially water, and encourage emptying the bladder every two hours or so. (She'd been waiting until she got home from school, too afraid she'd be late for a class, I think.)

I'd make an appointment just to make sure it is or isn't. I'm over protective :o and always felt better finding out either way when I had a "hunch" about something.
BTW-I pm'd you!

Thanks everyone!

I called the Avery's Pediatrician and she thinks DD just has an irritation. Her advice was to give Avery several baking soda baths a day for a few days. And to make sure she is getting wipped good. Since she is not running a fever she did not think it was a UTI.

So we will try this for a few days and see how she does. :)

With all that you and your family have been going through lately I would guess its regression. :(
My pediatrician had told me any major life change will make them regress thats why she suggested we wait to train DS until after our second DS was born(I was pregnant at the time). Ive also seen it happen with a friend of mine. Her DD was trained fairly young(around 2-2.5) then they moved out of state and she totally regressed.
Good luck either way. I know its not fun.

Your DD has the same symptoms my DD had a few months ago and it was a UTI. The odor and loss of control are classic symptoms. Often a fever doesn't happen until the infection has been left untreated for quite sometime.

It does sound like it could be a UTI. My own DD had so many UTI's as a baby/toddler. She would be the same way. She knew how to use the potty, but would have accidents all the time. I always knew once the accidents started, to get her to the doc. They would take a sample (she became really good at peeing on command), then check it right away. If it came back positive, which it usually did, they would put her on an antibiotic, and within a day or two, she was good as new.

She finally outgrew the UTI's when she was about 5.

Good luck.:D

I thought DD had one, she was reluctant to go and then had accidents because she got to a point she could not get undressed fast enough to go. A couple times she said her tinkle was hot. We took her to the doctor and they did some tests. Turns out she just had a little external irritation and the doctor told us to make sure if she swam we changed and dried her completely when she got out, and to make sure the last thing we do in the tub is to wash her hair and then get her right out of the water because there is something in the shampoo that was causing an imbalance of the good bacteria. I used some Desitin on her tinkle area for a couple days and kept her in a pull ups because of medicine, and explained it to her that way. She made it to the potty pretty consistently after that. Oh, and the doctor did say it is a good idea to drink a small bit of cranberry or cranberry blend juice each morning for her. I have a long history of kidney infections so it is just good preventative medicine. Also - if she won't drink the juice, blueberries have the same enzyme that is good for bladder/kidney health and my DD loves those.
