Our house was burglarized on Monday while we were at work. They took many things and ransacked our home. One of the things they found while completely tearing apart my room, was my bag full of Disney Gift Cards that I have been purchasing from Kroger since January AND my daughter's piggy bank clearly marked "Disney spending money":mad::mad: !!!!

I do not think this is possible - because I don't have a clue where ALL the receipts are - I have a couple but not many - and I did not write every card number down. Any other ideas on how to trace these? and I'm so embarrassed to say that we did not have renters insurance. :( I had over 10 gift cards - some were for $25 and some were $50. I bought one with each paycheck. I am devastated and simply grasping at any possibility of recovering the money. Thank you.

Stealing a child's piggy bank is the lowest of the low. So sorry this happened to you! Not sure if there is much to do, maybe (longshot) once you have the police report phone down to WDW and speak to a CM explaining the situation and offering the police report as proof along with the few receipts you had?

:worried: I don't know..I was just reading the back of one I have and it says:

Lost, stolen or damaged gift cards cannot be replaced without required proof of purchase and complete gift card number.

Perhaps you can go to the place you bought it (If you bought it with a credit/debit card) and see if they can bring up all your transactions? That way you can get replacement receipts?

I know when I worked at Target they were able to do that. And I think they print a partial gift card number on the receipt to confirm activation.

GREAT ideas. I will definitely try them both!!! I know it's a longshot for both ... but it's better than the alternative. :( The detectives were fingerprinting for a very long time. I hope they catch them just so I can SEE who would take a 7 year olds money jar/piggy bank????

You want to call disney ASAP with the receipt
or any of the numbers off that card.

I lost my 800.00 gift card while in disney.
Called that night and they reissued another. Whoever found it spent 6 bucks.
but they stopped payment on that card and gave me another minus the 6 bucks

I'm glad you were able to get a replacement, but boy, people really SUCK! If I found a gift card, cc, anything I would turn it in because that is what I would want someone to do if I lost something! I bet they tested it on a small purchase so they could see 1. if it worked 2. how much was left on it.

OP, I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you're able to recover some of it, if not all of it.

OP, I do the very same thing. Right now I have about $1,000 worth of Disney gift cards in my drawer. But there is not a penny on them. Because I keep the actual amount on a Disney reservation, (whether or not I am actually going) or I load them into my Disney Vacation Account.

If something of this happened to us, or our house were to burn, I think this would be the safety net I am looking for. If I am wrong, will someone please correct me and give me more valuable information.

Sorry to hear... any person to take to take a kids piggy bank is pure sc*m (dont want to sound harsh... but im not harsh enough). Hope you made a police report. If you have one receipt... maybe they can see anyone used a card... and now with most places with cameras... you may narrow a person down?

So sorry for what happened to you OP. I work at a small chocolate shop in Indy and we had a guy rob us at gunpoint last week. The world is losing it. Anyway, I had given a gift card to my mom for watching our dog and she lost it. I called Kroger and they could look up my transaction. It took a while, not sure if it's the same at every kroger, but I think it's worth a try.

OP I really hope you can recover some of your loss. And I REALLY hope karma bites the robber in the booty for taking your child's piggy bank!

I agree: call right now with the numbers you DO have. Recover what you can as fast as you can.

Then take a look at those credit card bills. Speak to someone at Disney (and if they can't help you, call back. And call back again; Disney isn't famous for the consistency of its answers.)

Are you filing an insurance claim for the loss? Maybe there is some recovery available there.

I am so sorry, this is so sad to read. I hope you can trace down what you can. I hope the cops catch who did it and I wish you the very best of luck at trying to recover what you can! We are saving every penny we can for a 2015 trip, and I know we would be devastated if this had happened.

:grouphug:

You have little to no chance of recovering the money unfortunately. Even if the thieves are captured, unless they actually have the gift cards in their possession, and then only as soon as they're not considered evidence anymore.

If you have receipts, then you can request refunds. Contact Kroger and ask what your options are, depending on how you purchased them they may be able to track your purchases. Since you don't have insurance I don't think you can go that route. Remember to keep copies of the numbers on your gift cards.

Kroger is going to try to help me find as many of my purchases as they can.. but there really is a very slim chance that we will recover anything significant. Thank you so much for all your thoughts and ideas. This has definitely been a lesson for me!!! We are not sure whats going to happen with our trip yet. We may have to cancel it since we are so close to the date.
Again, thanks so much for your help!

I hope Kroger helps you to recover most if not all. They need to do it fast though before the thieves spend all the money. So sorry that this happened to you and that now your trip is in jeopardy thanks to some low life. I'll never understand their mentality.
