I like to go over all aspects of planning my trip, and was wondering to myself, would I rather be on the top floor or bottom floor when you're staying in a value or moderate? I know people have preferences for different reasons, and was hoping you would share those. For instance, I would think it's nice to be on the ground floor so you can walk right out to the pool, courtyard, etc, but, then you might be closer to more noise? What do you think are the pros and cons of each?

If I really had my drudders, I or we prefer any floor but the first. Guests leaving and entering their rooms by the slider tend to leave it open, inviting bugs, gnats and creepy crawlers. We like being up higher, better overall view, the walk doesn't bother us to the food court or pool, thats what elevators are for. Top floor is ideal, no one above you to stomp around. each person has their preference but any room at Disney is great, being on property and waking up with a view of anything knowing you do not need a car for anything is grand, just get up and go.

Definitely upstairs. Even though it is convenient to stay on the first floor it's WAY too noisy. There are alot of people who let their kids run around in hotel rooms at all hours. Also in the values and moderates, try not to get a room near a stairway.

If I'm in an area without elevators, it's definitely first floor request for me. However, I usually request a top floor, because the one noise that gets on my nerves faster than anything else is someone walking heavily above me. One time, someone was walking so hard that our ceiling fan was rattling (and this was at a deluxe - many years ago). I also prefer to be on a far corner, so there is less foot traffic going by the room to get to other places. You can never get completely away from the noise, but I find if you request the opposite of what most people request, it works pretty well.

see, this is why I love posting questions like this! It's not usually things I think about and especially if you've never stayed in WDW, you have no idea what to expect! Thanks for your posts and keep em coming, it's very interesting to hear your views :)

I always want a room on the top floor. The sound of people walking and running "on top of me" just drives me looney! :scared: However...
Due to the fact that several wonderful CMs (including the Manager) at CSR went to great lengths to get us a room in a particular building last month, I just could not bring myself to make yet another request! I kind of cringed when i saw we were on the bottm floor. HOWEVER, I never heard so much as one footstep above me-and I knew the room above was booked. :cool1:

With the exception of POR (no elevators in AB section), I prefer to NOT be on the 1st floor. I am deathly afraid of snakes and saw a HUGE snake underneath our WL balcony 2 summers ago!!

I'm equally afraid of snakes and other slithering creatures so I try to avoid ground floor rooms as well.

I was sitting at one of the pool bars a few years ago when one of the other guests screamed and flew off her seat. She noticed a small snake curled up on the ground near her chair. Animal Control (or whatever they call themselves) took too long to show up so another guest just picked it up and brought it to the back end of the resort. I'm now very careful about where I step (I never walk on the grass) and I try not to leave my bag or really anything sitting on the ground when I'm at the bar or pool area. I know, I know... too paranoid.

But, snakes aside, I prefer the top floor because there's nobody jumping around above.

I prefer the top floor, and request it on every trip(it's not always granted, but they do try.) There's a LOT less traffic up there than on the ground, which comes in handy if we want to sleep late one morning or go to bed early one night (rarely happens in Disney, but sometimes those Extra Magic Hours warrant the extra sleep!) :)

I always request non-ground floor. Snakes scare the ...... out of me, but that isn't the reason I request it - it is purely a security thing with me. I used to travel all the time for work and one of the places I stayed in Salt Lake City only had a first floor room available and in the middle of the night someone tried to break in through the window!

Have not stayed in a ground floor room since and don't plan on it ever again. That is my only request on any room reservation.

Wow, I have learned alot here. I have never requested a certain floor before. Last year I had a ground floor at ASMO. I guess I was lucky that it was at the far end and not near stairs. There was little noise and luckily no snakes!!! I think I will request a higher floor from now on.

I always request top floor to avoid noise above us, and a "quiet area" such as not near the ice machine or elevator because of the constant noise. Haven't ever thought about snakes on the ground floor, but I am deathly afraid of them! An end room is a good idea too, if it's not in a high traffic area, even though we've never had one yet.

Aren't the "little things" we learn from the DisBoards cool?! I can not imagine planning a trip without the DisBoards!! :thumbsup2

I requested 1st floor at POR-AB for next month.. I so dont want to carry 2 strollers plus 2 sleepy toddler up a flight to the second floor.

I agree about learning about the little things on the disboards. We're not even going on our first WDW trip for another year and a half, and I have a little notebook full of things to remember and request and avoid etc. The more I read, the more questions I have (and the more I change my mind about what resort at which to stay:confused3 ). Thank goodness for these boards

If there are no elevators I prefer ground floor since we have 3 little kids and a double stroller. If there is an elevator I don't care where we stay but DH still prefers the ground florr.

Just an FYI

Keep in mind not all of the Mods have elevators.

CBR does not have elevators.

CSR does have elevators.

POFQ does have elevators.

POR the AB section does not have elevators.

POR the Mansions does have elevators.

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

I always try to get the highest floor possible. When I was renting my first apartment, my grandmother scared me to death with her words of wisdom. " Burglars don't want to carry heavy stuff down stairs." I have been scared of ground floor apartments and hotels ever since.
