Upset with Survey

Sometimes if your answers don't align with the demographic they are looking for feedback from, the survey ends abruptly.

Yes, they are looking for a specific criteria. Mine was geared on my DHS day mostly but I would definitely write a letter if there was something you wanted Disney/DVC to know.

While I find the orientation questions odd for a Disney survey, there are more and more travel companies advertisinfg to the gay travel market. There ae gay cruises from the major cruise lines, along with other specialty cruises. Disney World had rainbow background photo spots during Gay Days this year in every park. It can be a profitable market. They want to know guest demographics for marketing, which helps them choose websites and publications they may want to post ads in. I mean, we really don't see much Disney marketing in Semior Citizen websites/publications, even though it is ofen Grandma and Grandpa that pay for the big family trips, so that may be a market they want to look into, as well. While in my case, I have little family left, I travel with friends and it is "Gay Uncle Chuck" that gets the DVC Rooms and does the park and dining planning, and the grandparents that pay park tickets and meals, and everyone is on their own for transportation to/from when we do a big 10 to 16 person trip every few years. But some years, I go solo or travel with a smaller group to Disney for Gay Day. And the marketing doesn't even need to be specifically targetted but can be very subtle. Notice more and more commercials include scenes of extended multi- generation families, or scenes of kids with gay parents just having a good time at avarious theme parks or on cruises, or ordering groceries or just car shopping for a family car.

As others have said, if there are survey questions you are uncomfortable with, either skip those questions (if you can) or don't complete the survey. This seems to not have been a DVC survey, but a marketing survey for the resort.

If you want to address issues specifically about your resort stay, the thing to do is email guest services or member services.

Another thought I had is that these surveys go out to so many guests at so many different resorts, that having spots for real feedback are left out because they are not analyzed that way and more than likely that feedback would get lost anyway.

I think the best way to share specific ideas/concerns is sending an individual email/letter to DVC.

I've seen survey questions like that. By mapping $ spending pattern data to demographics, they can fine tune marketing to either pander to or ignore certain demographic groups. Not justifying right or wrong but it's standard business practice, though usually done with more finesse.

Yes, you can opt to not complete the survey, but I would certainly have had the same line of thinking as the OP - that I would hope that the survey would offer a way to provide criticism of the survey itself at the end.

And there would be no way to know that until the end - and if the questions are submitted in real time (I don't if they are or not until the entire thing is submitted at the end), then that's not an option.

In my profession, we do a lot of medical research questionnaires (and are paid for our time), but they almost always have a couple of questions at the end that ask something like "How would you suggest that we can improve this survey?"

Maybe Disney doesn't care about that...

I have taken no less than 50 Disney surveys. I get one every time I visit the parks. I have never seen one ask about how to improve the survey, whether I liked taking the survey, etc. I have seen that on other surveys from other companies. But not from Disney.

Sometimes Disney gives you blank boxes and asks for specific details about your feedback. I've gotten lots of those. Sometimes they don't. They are all different.

The ones without feedback boxes where you can say anything you want tend to just be demographic surveys with generic park/hotel experience questions. They aren't looking for feedback so much as just taking a literal survey.

So I think you mentioned that there were issues there that you wanted to address? Anything we should be prepared for? We go next month.

Oh, don't be worried! The resort is still wonderful. It is in need of a refurb, of course, which hopefully will be happening soon. DHHIR is a special place for us, and we will be back for years to come. The only issue we have is one that has been around since it was built. They need to sound-proof between the floors. I'm really hoping they do that during the refurb, but not sure how easy that is to do. We added a night onto our trip a couple of weeks ago and had to move from a 1-BR on the top floor to a studio on the 1st floor of Building 12. I am a very light sleeper and had to sleep with earplugs due to the movement above us. To me, that is literally the only thing that can be improved about the resort, but it's enough to keep me from adding on more points there. I really would be bummed if I had to spend my whole trip with people moving around above me all day and into the night. So I wish I could have expressed that opinion on the survey, but no such luck. I do plan to write to Member Satisfaction about it though.

I hope you all have a wonderful trip!!!! We will be back in March.
