Don't assume that will work. Spirit will probably be able to show that you were scheduled on the first flight, asked to change your flight, agreed to the change fee, and flew on the alternate flight. If so, that makes the charge legitimate in the eyes of the credit card company. You will need to get Spirit to agree that you shouldn't have been charged to get it refunded.

I once disputed an incorrect fare charged on USAir and the credit card company refused to get involved, they said it was between me and them. I even had screen prints of the lower fare.

Just an update: I disputed the charge with my credit card. They gave me a temporary credit on my account in the amount of the change fees until the investigation is complete. This could take up to a month. It's not a major update, but an update nonetheless.

agreed... if OP rescheduled within the guidelines, it should take more than a call or letter to Spirit. I will be very curious to see how the disput is handled. I had a $10 dispute when I was double charged one time. It was immediately given a "temporary" credit and then it took a couple of months to get a final decision made. In the end, my credit stuck, but it was easy to see it was a duplicate charge. In this case, Spirit could show their policy and the charge will stand. Now, it would be nice if OP did make changes in the window to change and Spirit realizes it.....

In your case it was probably money well spent making the change and paying the fee. Had you waited (or had the airline offered earlier) to waive the change fees it is possible all the seats on the earlier flights could have been taken.

What, pray, would have happened if you did not pay for the change to return home early and also worse came to worst and you were delayed getting home?
