Can't believe it, we've been saving miles for a couple of years and we'd got to 135000 but it seemed with no way to actually spend them with so few seats and especially for a family of 4. Then I spotted 4 upper class seats outbound only and with a frantic conversion of clubcard points to miles (30% bonus at the moment) plus buying the remainder up to 200,000 points, we've just booked Virgin direct in Upper Class!

Can't believe we're definitely going and in UC as well. The outbound cost 1290 in taxes plus the 350 I had to spend on miles. I'm ignoring the value of the clubcard points as they're free lol.

So 1640 for UC outbound on 2nd August. Already found some returns in economy on the 30th for 1600 as well so 3200 all in!

They have some availability in upper on the 4th out of Manchester in UC if anyone is interested. If you have a few miles already and some clubcard vouchers you've been saving, buying miles doesn't cost as much as you might think if you only need a top up!

Just had to share *** I'm so excited.

Thats so good.I would be bouncing off the walls if that was me.We've currently got 70000 miles. For the four of us i don't thing UC will happen any time soon,as we are looking for August dates too.

Well done

Fantastic! Well spotted. :) Looks like our trips will cross over again as we've just booked 8th July - 5th August. Only cattle class for us but great flight times and despite it being our 16th visit excited as ever! Roll on 2014!

Luck you! :thumbsup2
No wonder you are excited - I am sure it will be fabulous!

Awwwww!! That's SO AMAZING!! REALLY pleased for you! Am not surprised you just HAD to share and so glad that you did! :) Hope you have a truly FAB time and come on here to boast about it! ;) lol

I managed to snag us UC on miles on one of our previous trips on a return trip from MCO in April........ it was the WORSE trip we have every had :rotfl2::rotfl2:

It wasn't the fault of VA it was the weather ..... the turbulence was soooooo bag even the VA crew were seated and belted for 3/4 of the journey it was such a shame :sad: We weren't allowed to put the seats into the bed position and we didn't get any food service till we'd been airborne for about 5 hours as it just to bumpy ..... even the VA crew said they'd never seen it so bad.

That's what I've always wanted to know,if the seat belt signs come on and your in your 'bed position' do the crew have to wake you up and move you to a seated position?

Oh how awful, Id have been gutted!

Our first PE experience was ruined in a similar way, DH passed out and spent five hours on oxygen, not the relaxing flight we had planned lol!

No they don't as you have a seatbelt to wear whilst in the sleeping position cabin crew tell you to wear it and make it visible so that they don't need to wake you if the seatbelt sign comes on, the problem is getting up to convert from bed to seat or seat to bed as it requires you to get up and unbuckle hence it can't be done in turbulence where the seatbelt is required, so once that happens you are stuck in the mode you are currently in

It's a great feeling we have done the same and fly out on 15/08/14.

For our return I have now changed my original booking via Madrid, to Miami to Boston in first with AA, then Boston to LHR in Business and then domestic back to Manchester, all paid for with Avios and 810 cash, plus a change fee of 75.00 for the three of us.

I'm trying to work out if we get express security passes at Manchester, as I normally buy those, do you know. I know we get to use the Escape Lounge for free.

You will love UC - it's even better when you get it free on points. :) When I've used it, I normally eat, have a few drinks, watch a film and sleep the rest of the flight. The beds are comfortable enough to sleep through for several hours.

Heatherbelle you do get fast track through security at Manchester, unless they have changed it.

We did UC both ways 3 years ago as a treat for daughter's 21st from Man. It turned out that the flights from MAN are better for UC than from London as the cabin has fewer seats, just about 14 (can't remember the exact number) around the walls of the cabin, none in the centre, so everyone stood in the centre of the cabin and chatted on the flight out! It was such a great atmosphere, the food was great, seats were very comfortable. Just wish we could do it every year!

Oh good grief...I'd have been a wreck. I HATE turbulence so much and even a little bit can reduce me to tears. I remember drawing blood on my sisters hand many years ago...
