Upgrading

I have read several threads about people being upgraded from standard Disney rooms to deluxe etc. Is this just luck of the draw or is it based on Disney's quieter times? We are staying in AKL from Dec 12th - 15th this year in a standard room with no plans to pay the extra for a better room. Its not that I am tight, although every pound is a prisoner, its just that for the amount of time we will spend in the room I don't see it as worth it. If on the other hand we were upgarded for free......

At AKL, many people receive complimentary upgrades from standard-view rooms to savannah-view rooms, due to the simple fact that there are more savannah-view rooms and they tend to book up less quickly than the regular rooms. I'm not sure how busy it will be around the dates of your trip, but it will be worth asking upon check-in if an upgrade is at all possible. If they say no, it won't matter, if they say yes then look at it as an added bonus

We stayed in AKL for 3 nights back in 2003 and had a savannah view room - in my opinion the view really made the stay at AKL that little bit special. Being able to sit out on the balcony and watch the giraffes feeding etc. was a great experience. If you do get the chance to upgrade go for it
