Upgrading to AP question.

I apologize if this is answered elsewhere but I can't seem to find the sticky about tickets, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. My husband and I currently have a room only reservation planned for late September. We were planning on purchasing annual passes while there, since we tend to go at least twice a year.

If free dining is offered and I chose to book a package instead, could I upgrade to annual passes once we arrive? Or would upgrading make me lose the free dining plan?

Thanks!

You just have to purchase whatever is required to get the package (typically a 2 day ticket). You can do whatever you like with that ticket once you get there (like upgrade to an AP).

I was just on the phone with a CM about this a couple days ago and was told that I would be able to pick up the tickets and upgrade them to APs. We also did this 2 years ago on our trip, we upgraded on the last day of our trip though ... but it worked then too !

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm always looking to save a little more on my trips (mostly so I can buy more souvenirs)

Correct.
However, in this case, it would be wise to purchase NOT the minimum ticket to satisfy the requirements of the package.

It would make sense to buy tickets with enough "days" to cover this entire trip.
So, at 60-days before check-in, the OP could make FP+ reservations for the entire number of days of this trip.

After check-in, and going into a theme park at least one time, the OP could upgrade those tickets to APs
and still keep the scheduled FP+ for the duration of this trip.

The cost of the multi-day tickets would be fully recovered in the difference cost of the AP upgrade.

And, I'm happy that my 82,000th post was about ticket upgrades (even though it does contain some FP+ stuff in there.) ;)

Thanks! I'm actually not one to use FP+, except for a select few rides, but I may try it this year. Last fall I snagged a few perfect ones last minute. And by last minute I mean we walked to Jungle Cruise at 11:55, saw there was a 40 minute wait. Pulled out our phones and nabbed 12:00 Fast Passes. Finished our drinks and walked right on the ride. I know that will probably not happen again.

Just double checking. We got free dining today and have 4 day hopper +, we were hoping to upgrade to a season pass, either Mon-Fri or a regular season pass with blackout dates. The cost of both of these are less than the 4 day hoppers. Will they refund the difference if we upgrade? Would it be back to how we paid or a gift card?

1. Will they refund the difference if we upgrade?

2. Would it be back to how we paid or a gift card?

1. Officially, no. Disney policy is not to offer refunds on ticket transactions.
But, on occasion, a ticket CM may give guests "pixie dust" and offer a refund.

2. If the CM does offer you a refund, it will usually be on a gift card.
