Upgrading to AP , parking that first day?

Im upgrading my PH to an AP on my first park day. I am staying offsite. Anyway to get around parking fees that first day? I do have my expired AP and my DVC card. Its not a big deal if I have to pay, I just thought of it because I've never had to before.

Keep the receipt and show it to the desk when you activate the AP
We did this in April and they gave us a 25$ gift card

DVC members don't get free parking at theme parks just because they are a member. They get free parking at a theme park because they are staying at a WDW resort.
