Upgrading to Annual Pass

My family and I have a trip booked for 12/24-1/1. As part of a package (not sure if that matters, but I'm bolding it), we each have an 8-day park hopper (a $521 value, I believe).

Let's say I wanted to go to Disney one random weekend. Would I (and possibly my sister) be able to upgrade just my/our 8-day park hopper to an AP? Would it affect our package if only one or two of our 4-person party is an AP holder?

I'm thinking through the price point for this trip. If we're spending $521 each for a park hopper, then purchasing the PhotoPass for $150; and an Annual Pass comes out to $904 after taxes; we can easily find value by upgrading, then going back for at least a 3-day trip.

Sure, you can upgrade as many or as few tickets as you want. It doesn't change your package -- just upgrade your ticket(s) to an annual pass when you arrive. If you decide to go for it, I would do it at the beginning of the trip so you can take advantage of the 10% dining discounts at many restaurants, as well as the 20% merchandise discount. (You will need your annual pass card and your ID on hand for discounts, just a heads-up.)

@PlutoTheDog89 - if you think you’ll need APs before your Christmas trip, change that reservation to room-only. Everyone listed for a package Stay needs the same type of tickets.

Buy separate park hopper tickets for your parents and APs for you and sister.

You can't touch package tickets prior to (I think) ten days before the package starts, so if you'd want to do this earlier than that, I agree with @hiroMYhero - modify the package to a RO, buy separate tickets.
