Okay here goes. We purchased 2 day park to park tickets with 3rd day fee (so essentially a 3 day P2P ticket) for 3 adults and 1 child through UT before the price increase went into effect. If we want to upgrade to AP's when we get there is that possible since we bought these through a 3rd party site, how does that work, and what would the cost be to upgrade the tickets? Thanks guys in advance!!

Oh and sorry but follow up question...if this all works is the AP valid for a year from when we bought the tickets or just good until the end of 2015? Sorry lol!!

You should have no trouble upgrading your ticket to an ap. The only thing that doesn't seem to be clear is if they will give you credit for a 2 day ticket or a 3 day ticket. Your annual pass will be good for one year from the first time you use it (or the first time you use the ticket that you upgrade).

Please let us know how it works out.

Thank you so much for answering my question! I'm not sure how they will treat the days we have currently. It's technically a 3 day ticket but we paid a 2 day price for it
. I believe it's a special that Universal has going on right now. This will be our first trip with our kids to US/IOA and DH and myself have not been since 2010. Our trip is planned for the 3rd week in August and we are super excited to add this to our tradition this year! I will let you know how it turns out if we end up with AP's :goodvibes

We upgraded the special costco three day tickets to AP's a few years back and they credited us the exact amount we paid for the tickets towards the price of the new AP's. Don't know if the process has changed, but that was how it worked for us.

The trouble from an upgrade perspective is that if it's the current 2 day + 1 free that's on the Universal website it's technically not a 3 day ticket it's technically a 2 day + 1 free in Universal's Computer. If it is the 2 day + 1 free that doesn't expire on the Undercovertourist website, it could technically be a 3 day ticket in Universal's computer. Either way, it should be a relatively cheap upgrade to a power pass. If you're going during the blackout period, you can upgrade on the last day on this trip and upgrade to a power pass (just make sure you do it at the inside customer service or you won't be able to get back into the park).

The process seems to have changed sometime between last years price increase and the opening of the Hogwarts Express. Prior to that it was like you said, the difference between what Universal received for the tickets you purchased and the gate price of what you were upgrading to. Now, it is the difference between the gate price of what you your turning in and what your upgrading to.

Ah well that makes sense. I'm with you though and either way it goes it's still a great deal if we plan on taking another trip in the next 12 months. That is good to know about the black out dates, I did not even think about that! If we do this we were kind of thinking about upgrading the kids and I to the power and the hubs to the preferred so that we can still get the added benefits that come with that particular AP. Not planning on going back during black out dates so that should not be an issue. Thanks again!

that is good to know. My main concern originally was if this was even an option if you did not buy directly from Universal! Thank you!!

I also purchased the 2 day park to park w/ 3rd day free from UCT ( 2 adult & 1 child). I upgraded all 3 to power passes on February 26th at no extra cost. The rep at guest services said that the cost of a 3 day ticket was higher than the cost of a power pass. She said when she did the math they owed me $22.00 but she wasnt able to refund it. I laughed and said no problem! LOL

Good to know. I might try to upgrade the tickets I bought for the people in my family that don't have APs and I'm going to see what the cost is to upgrade to preferred passes. If it's not too much, I'll probably do that or at least get them power passes.

I'll be there in mid-May and planning to upgrade my tix to APs as well - crossing my fingers that they won't raise AP prices before I get there!
