Upgrading to an AP Question

Let's say that you had purchased a 7 day hopper pass, went on vacation and only used 6 days. Months later, you decide to take another trip to WDW. Had you originally planned this trip you might have bought an AP at that time. Can you upgrade the hopper pass that you had purchased which still has 1 day left on it to an AP when you go back to Disney? Or ....... would you have had to upgrade it when you were at Disney for the first trip and it's not allowable now?
 
No, the ticket expires 14 days after first use.
