Upgrading to an AP on arrival day

I understand that if I have some sort of AP package, only one lead guest needs an AP, which can be used for up to 3 rooms.

I also understand that I can simply include MYW tickets for everyone in the room(s) and then upgrade one of those tickets to an AP at a park's guest services upon arrival day.

In addition, I've heard that you can often check in before upgrading the one ticket to an AP (with the understanding that you'll do it later).

My question is this, suppose I've booked 2 rooms under AP packages, but the lead guest in the second room isn't showing up until hours after my party shows up. Before upgrading my ticket to an AP, I go to check in and the CM doesn't ask to see my AP (or tells me I can show it later, after I visit a park).

I then tell the CM that there's another reservation linked to mine, but that those guests won't show up for several hours. I next ask whether there is any chance they won't be allowed to check in, given I haven't yet shown an AP (but promise to upgrade my ticket to one at the first opportunity). The CM nonchalantly replies that this shouldn't be a problem and that they'll "make a note of this on my reservation."

Should I be concerned that the guests on the linked reservation won't be allowed to check in if we're off at a park when they arrive.

You need to get your AP before checking in or the prices will revert to rack rate. Take your AP voucher to guest relations at a park or DTD before checking into your resort

I would bet that you won't need your AP checking in. If they ask, just say you're going to get it and will bring it by the desk when you return. I wish they would, but they don't even ask to see it all the time.

And I don't think your later arriving party will have any issue.

I guess some are asked and some aren't lol If you search on the board for the answer there's all kinds of diff replies. Here's a few

You can book with a valid Annual Pass, an exchange voucher or with the intent to purchase an Annual Pass, as long as you present a valid Annual Pass or exchange voucher upon check-in.

You do not have to have an AP or a voucher at the time you make the reservation. Just make sure to have it upon check-in; you will have to show it only if they ask for it.

you should get at least 1 AP prior to checking in. When booking on the phone they don't ask for your AP number so its a matter of verifying at check-in. I've done AP discounts tons of times and its hit-or-miss with the CMs asking to see your AP (whether I booked online or over the phone). Just having it in-hand prior to check-in will ensure you won't get stuck in an awkward situation if a CM decides to do his/her job and actually verify.
