Upgrading tickets?

I am not sure if this can be done or not...

If I purchase a 10 day ticket with park hopping and no expiration from the Shades of Green and only use 3 days I will have the 7 days left to use for another trip... that part I am not confused by (thank goodness!!)

The question is - when I plan my next trip we may want to visit for 10 days. So can I upgrade or "add" on 3 days to the balance of the previous ticket or will I have to buy a whole new ticket for 3 days? And if I can add on 3 days how much would it be??????

I would consider and annual pass but we might not make it down in the year so I am looking at this other option.

Disney will allow you to upgrade to a pass with more days on it than the original pass had. So if you had a 5-day MYW Hopper and wanted to upgrade to a 10-day MYW Hopper (essentially adding 5 more days) before the original 5 days were used up, you could.

You cannot do what you suggest (buy a 10-day MYW pass, use all but 7 days and upgrade to add 3 more days) because there is no 13-day MYW pass to upgrade to.

(Not applicable in your case for the reasons stated above.) Upgrading by paying the cost of a sixth day ($3. expiring, $14. non-expiring), a seventh day, etc. can be done only within 14 days of first usage and before the ticket is fully consumed.

You can trade in the remains of the old ticket towards a new 10 day ticket when you arrive for your second vacation, with 7 days left you should get 7/10'th* the purchase price towards the price of the new ticket. Since by then the old ticket is more than 14 days from first usage you must buy non-expiration on the new ticket.

The best ticket for a 9, 10, and usually 8 day vacation is an expiring ticket. So in your case you may be better off not using the remains of the first ticket and instead buying an all new expiring ticket for the second vacation.
