upgrading tickets once you're there

Can you upgrade tickets once you're at the resort? We are going for 9 days but only got a 6 day ticket. We want at least one day off at the resort. My DS wants to go offsite for a day at Universal studios but there isn't much there that interests my 2 year old DD. Can I buy an extra day on my ticket to take her to the magic kingdom while my hubby and son go to universal studios?? I didn't know if we could since we are buying a "package deal" where the tickets are discounted the more days you go and I would only want to upgrade MY ticket for a day, not my son's or my husbands... Or would I be stuck paying the full day ticket price with no discounts?

Yes, you can do that. You will need to go to a guest relations window / ticket window to have this done as I do not believe it can be done at a resort. You simply take your tickets you want to add a day to and they will make the change with you paying for the added day(s). We did this last year when we took our 10 day park hoppers and converted them into AP's.

What we did is we bought our tickets prior to the price going up. Once we got to the park, we upgraded at DHS. They refunded back my ticket at the current higher price and put that on a gift card. They then rang up the AP and then used the gift card towards the purchase so we ended up only paying the difference.

yes you can do this, we have done it at the resort at the concierge desk, not the check in desk.

Of course you can do that as long as it is within 14 days of first use (counting the day you first used the ticket). Regular ticket upgrades can be done at resort concierge, but upgrades to an AP can only be done at a guest relations office. Just make sure you have used your tickets once first so that you get full current gate value and only pay the difference between current gate value of the ticket you have and the ticket you want v. what you paid for the ticket you have and the current cost of the ticket you want.

I was planning to take my 3 day ticket and upgrade it to an AP since I will be going back down with my family next summer. Are you saying that if I use my 3 day ticket one day, then upgrade to an AP that I will be credited for the current price of the tickets, since they just went up a couple weeks ago, not the actual amount I paid for the ticket when I paid off my package a couple months ago?

Exactly. Otherwise, you only get what Disney sold the ticket for as credit. Note: that is not necessarily what you paid for the ticket. If you purchased your tickets through a discount broker, such as Undercover Tourist, it will be less than what you purchased the ticket for. You may also upgrade a ticket with nothing left on it as long as it is within the 14 day mark. It's just a good habit to always use the ticket at least once first. Know the prices (current) of the ticket you have and the ticket you are upgrading to so that you can make sure they haven't forgotten to bridge the ticket price. If they do, remind them gently. If you get a CM that just doesn't know what they are doing, ask for a manager or try again later at a different window.

Okay, great, thanks for the information, Dis'ers! I did not know that! I thought upgraded tickets were always credited only the actual price paid for the ticket, regardless of what the current value was. It's only a couple dollar difference, but hey, I'd rather that money be in my pocket than Mickey's
