I had purchased power passes and changed my mind and wanted preferred. I had called ticket customer service and was told I had to wait until the park guest relations to upgrade. Then I had an idea to change the name on the power pass to my husband and buy myself a new preferred. So I emailed and was told I could do that since I had not yet printed or redeemed the pass.

So I called to change the name, and was told I could pay by phone and upgrade my pass, so I did. Now I'll be able to print the AP at the RPR to show the desk for the aph rate.

So it can be done!

I think you said right there...the passes had not been printed or redeemed. Most folks won't have that option...they will need to go to Guest Services to take care of anything to do with their annual passes.

It is definitely helpful.

In case you didn't know, or in case someone reading gets worried, you don't have to show the AP right there at check-in. They will tell you when you need to show them the AP, to keep the AP rate. You did need the Preferred (or the next level up) AP to qualify for the rate, but they know not everyone will appear with the pass in hand at check-in. :)

Sorry, thought the info might be helpful.....
It's very helpful...just be careful when you post hints as someone might not be able to do what you stated and they get all bent out of shape. It's cool. :thumbsup2

Sorry to hijack but you mentioned the AP rate and I have a question about that. We are going for the first time in June. The first two days we are in an offsite hotel and then moving to an onsite. We have talked about how if we fall in love with US then we will upgrade to an AP while we are there. If we upgrade before the day of our check-in at the onsite could I possibly change our rate to an AP rate and lower our cost?

Anybody know??

The AP rate isn't always available. You can check online to see by using the code APH in the code box here ... http://www.loewshotels.com/en/booking/uo?hotel=UEPBH,UEHRH,UERPR

That might work if there are rooms at that rate and length of your stay. The AP is not a discount off your room but rather a certain amount of rooms specifically for that rate. When they are gone they are normally gone. Sometimes depending on season sometime no AP rate either. Also I don't know about within 6 days because of cancelation and booking the other rate. Even though you are not canceling that's how it is considered.

We are still waiting for AP rates for our June/July trip.

Stayed at HRH last June for 1 night under the APH rate. I didn't have my pass yet so ended up having my husband drop me off for me to get my pass then I checked in at HRH thinking that I would have to show my pass to get the APH hotel rate. They never asked for my pass even though I had it. I did use the pass to get free theme park parking. We opted not to pay to park at the hotel since we also had an off-site condo for the week so some of our party drove back to the condo that night. We were picked up in front of HRH after check out and stashed our luggage and enjoyed another day of Express pass riding at the parks.
