Upgrading ticket to AP question

Can someone help me out on how this works. If I buy a ticket on Mousesavers and then decide when we go to upgrade to an AP how would that work? Can I do it? Do I get the face value of the ticket towards the purchase or the current day ticket value. Thanks for any help! :goodvibes

Just use your ticket to enter a park and go to guest services (we usually go to City Hall at MK, they are very knowledgeable) they will bridge any price difference between what you paid and current value, then you would pay the difference between that value and the current AP price.

Thanks SouthCarolinagirl...not sure I understand though. I guess I'm trying to get a discount by buying from Undercover Tourist (sorry I said Mousesavers first but I meant UT) but if/when I upgrade to an AP do they use my discounted price or the current ticket price first before calculating what I would owe.

Just trying to see if there is any additional savings before I try to convince hubby that the AP is a good idea. :teacher::upsidedow

From what I understand since we are attempting to do the same thing- say you buy the 7-day park hoppers with no expiration from Undercover Tourist at a savings of $75 off gate price, then you need to use the pass to get into the park which then sets the value of the ticket to the current gate price. Then you upgrade to the AP and you still have some or all of the original savings. The 2 things that you have to be careful of is if you by a ticket with the WPF&M (water parks, etc.) and you use one of those features- you must upgrade to the Premium AP. Also, there is an issue if your original ticket's value is more than the cost of the AP that you want to upgrade to, but to be honest I'm not sure how they handle that. We are just using the 7-day park hoppers with no expiration to upgrade from. Good luck!

Here is the link to my question about this that may help you.

It depends on when you do the upgrade. As the PP said, you need to use the ticket first. Buy using the ticket to enter the parks at least once, Disney will then see that ticket as a list price ticket for whatever you have on it. So if you buy a 10 day no expiration ticket from Undercover Tourist, they are currently charging $462, which they say is $43 off of gate price. If you try to do the upgrade before entering the park, Disney would credit you what UT paid for the ticket, so less than you paid for it. As that is all they know about the ticket at that point, what they received for it. BUT, if you enter the parks at least once with that ticket, they view it as whatever the current ticket package is. So, if you enter the parks at least once, and the numbers on the UT site are current, Disney would give you a $505 credit towards the ticket. An adult AP is currently $531, or so. So you would need to pay an additional $26 for the upgrade. That would mean your AP would cost you $488, which is still $43 off of gate price.
If you look at the other options you may be able to find a different ticket that has greater savings. Remember though, if your ticket has WP&M, and you use that, you would need to get a PAP.

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in this Forum, especially Post #7, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature.

Thank you Cheshire. I read it and now I just hope the transaction/upgrade goes smoothly once we get there and go to customer service. Someone else indicated that not all of the CM's understand the "bridge ticket" and may not at first want, or maybe understand is a better word, to apply the current gate price. Any advice on how to handle it if someone questions the upgrade?:wizard:

There is no reason why the Guest relation cast member should have any problems with upgrading the ticket to AP and realizing the bridge. My advice is head to DTD guest relations or any of the window GR locations outside of the parks if you are really worried about it.

It helps to be armed with knowledge of the ticket pricing. Look at Post 18 of the sticky, get the value of the ticket you are upgrading from and the value of the ticket you are upgrading to. Then add 6.5% tax to the difference. That is what you should be paying (plus or minus a few cents because of the way the tickets are in the computer).

Before you give your credit card or cash feel comfortable with the amount quoted. If you are not comfortable first ask of the person has bridged the pricing. If the answer is no, ask that it be done or that a supervisor be called.

Or, of course, you could come to TL on a Wednesday or Thursday and find me in a window, I am sure it will then be done correctly.
