Upgrading stateroom at check-in?

Does anyone know if there are ever any special offers at cruise check-in for upgrading? We currently do not have connecting staterooms (none available), and were wondering if when we checked-in they'd give a discounted rate for the higher category staterooms? Right now it would double (or, even triple) the price of the cruise for us to upgrade.

Just wondering if there is even a remote possibility. No big deal if there isn't.

You can always inquire about the cost to upgrade at the port. It is based upon availability and generally it is cheaper to purchase the upgrade then than to switch to a higher category close to your sailing date and pay the difference then. It is not CHEAP to upgrade at the port (still will probably be several hundred dollars per stateroom) but it is usually less expensive than a last minute category change prior to arrival at the port.

I've never actually tried to upgrade during check-in. However, friends that I was travelling with did and they wern't offered any discounted rates. The cost of the upgrade would have been about $360 and it was the same price they would have been charged if they had originally booked that category.
