Upgrading Seats with Virgin

We are flying out PE but couldn't get PE seats for the homeward journey. The lady from Virgin said I should check on the day if seats have become available. Has anyone else done this? Do you think I'll be able to do it from the DD check - in?

ive asked about the chance of this happening before and have always been told it's a very slim chance.

They will say that, as they will want to sell you a premium economy seat in advance. Every time I've flown with Virgin, there always have been seats available.

There aren't many PE seats (just 38 on the Gatwick - Orlando route). I've flown PE quite a few times now (around 16 flights at a guess) and the cabin has always been full. The upside of that is that we've been upgraded to Upper Class a few times.

Friends of ours were in the same situation as you in October. Their 22 year old son decided to travel with them at the last minute and they were able to get him into PE on the way out, but not homebound. They kept trying right up until the last minute, a couple of times during the trip and at Downtown Disney check-in, but without any luck. However, it was a busy time.

Since the lgw fleet has been upgraded to the new suites, there is now 58 premium seats, so you might have a better chance now.

regards

David :)

David,

When were the LGW-MCO aircraft upgraded to the new configuration? We just booked our seats online for our April (outward) and May (homebound) flights and they're still showing the old configuration.

They are all done now. Our flight next week changed from the old config to the new one last week.

I think its the infamous rows 11 and 12 downstairs behind the main upper class cabin that have been changed into pe seats, althought upstairs has a couple of extra seats put in as well.

Still think upstairs will be better :)

David :)

Yes, we flew out in the beginning of January and back on the 21st.
Both flights were the new Upper Class Suites and extra PE downstairs
UC was full, the PE was not. I think the days of upgrades to UC are gone as there are now only 14 super seats in the cabin. Well worth the cost though...

We travelled out on Feb 11th and back Feb 18th and neither aircraft were upgraded ones :sad2:

What a shame :earseek:
