Hi,

We are going back and forth trying to figure out if we will be staying value or moderate this year.

If we get free dining and we decide to stay at a value resort, we can just upgrade to the regular dining right? And if we do that is the cost just the actual difference between the two dining plans?

Also...if anyone wants to just tell me value or moderate so I can stop yo-yo-ing around that would be great. ;)

There is a sticky thread on this forum with all dining plan upgrade costs for 2012.

Here is a link I have bookmarked here on the Dis that has all the current free dining booking information, upgrade costs and historice free dining dates:

As for which resort to pick, it really just depends on your family and your needs. We are a family of 7 and we have stayed at all levels of resort at Disney. The Poly is our favorite deluxe, Port Orleans is our favorite moderate and All-Star Movies is our favorite value - but we are seriously looking forward to the new AOA resort. Now that our kids are teens and pre-teens and 3 of the 5 are priced out as adults, we just get 2 connecting rooms at a value resot. Also, the kids, and us too, want to be in the parks and all we do in the room is sleep and shower and maybe use the pool once or twice during an 8 day visit. I just don't want to spend the money on a Deluxe or even a moderate anymore.

You now have the price of the upgrade from QSDP to the regular DDP. Add up what that will cost for your family then see what the price difference is between a value and a moderate. If it's close, I'd go with the moderate just because there is more room and they are a little quieter.

Yes, you can upgrade it, but you have to pay the difference.

We were going back and forth between ASMu and POR when we were booking... Ultimately, we decided to stay at the Value and we upgraded the free QSDP to the regular DDP. We had to pay the difference, but for just the two of us, it still ended up being cheaper than if we had decided to stay at a Moderate with the free DDP.
