Upgrading park hopper to ap's

couple of questions about this. First, we have 3, 3 days park hopper tickets. We are hoping to upgrade them all to signature AP's. If we want to do this, do we need to do before we enter the parks for the first time or just before our last trip in?
Also, do they charge tax on them? If so that really stinks since we have no way to order them now out of state. Does anyone know how much they are with tax? $849 is the price. Thank you!

No tax on theme park tickets in CA.

You'll need to upgrade on the last day of use (at the very latest).

But if you're sure you're going to upgrade, do so ASAP after using your magic morning so you can get discounts on food and merchandise (10-20% off)

I just upgraded my PH to a signature AP and although I wasn't worried about losing my MM (we aren't early risers) the CM said if I told her what day I wanted to use it she could make sure I got in. Now that being said I don't know if this is the norm or not but if that's keeping you from upgrading before you enter the first day then I'd check into it so you can take advantage of the discounts.

I think for sure we want to do it when we first go, we will lose our magic morning, but I don't know if we care so much. Mostly want to be able to take advantage of the Photopass and discount on food/purchases!

If the AP gets you in on arrival and departure day for a few hours then that can make up for the 1 MM hour.

As mentioned, no tax on tickets or AP's in CA.

Many will use the the Parkhopper on day one for the MM then upgrade that morning after a few rides to take advantage of the AP discounts throughout the rest of your stay.

The upgrade can happen at any time, just needs to happen on or before the the end of the last day of use of your Parkhopper ticket. If you have have a three day ticket, it is worthless on day four.

One thing to watch out for depending on which pass you are getting is blackout days. Would suck to upgrade to an AP only to find out there is a blackout day during your trip. In that case, it may be with using the 3 day ticket and upgrading on last day.

I agree if there are no blackout days, upgrade as soon as you are on site and start enjoying the park even if it is a few hours on arrival day!

You don't need to upgrade for the PhotoPass. As soon as you link your PhotoPass card to your AP account, all of your pictures will show up, even those from before you upgraded.

As a side question, if you upgrade a multi-day pass to an AP, can you still get a payment plan? I've been toying with doing this next summer since we're going on a family trip in June and I'll be back for D23 in July, but I'm not sure I can pay that much up front.

Only if you live within one of the qualifying area zip codes. I would've loved that option but being from WA I couldn't.

Oh this is great! I had no idea! We may try to do the magic morning our first day then! Thank you!

Just make sure to pick up a Photopass card from any photopass photographer, that way you can add it to your account (if it doesn't show up automatically when you upgrade to the Signature AP)

Yes, you can still get the payment plan. I upgraded my hopper last month at the ticket booth and the CM asked me at the time if I wanted to do that payment plan. I think you just can't do it if you are upgrading from one AP level to a higher one. I will probably upgrade my Deluxe to a Signature early next year and at that time the whole amount will be due.

Yes, I was able to do this, but I am also a CA resident. I had a five-day hopper, and my payments for the Signature Pass make it about $42 a month. Since I was staying at DLH, the Magic Morning was a moot point since that is an included perk for staying at the On-Property Hotels. Since I was in the Parks a full week, totally made it worth it for me. I upgraded before even going into the Park my first day. Hooray for all the discounts!
