Long story short, grandma paid for our trip. She was originally booked in an adjoining room but can't go now. So we are in a cat 5a deluxe room with verandah. She said to upgrade to a bigger room if available when we check in. If the whole cruise is paid for by her, can we upgrade under her billing info? Any idea how big of a price difference we are talking?

I believe we can only upgrade to a bigger room before its concierge level. Which is a little too pricy for us.

Thanks.

Which ship, which port? How many people in your current cabin? Just curious. Did Grandma cancel her cabin?

I don't think it really matters who paid for the original cruise as long as your name is on the reservation for your cabin. At the port you would check in normally and THEN go to the supervisor's desk to see if any paid upgrades are available. If there are you could pay with your credit card. You can also upgrade to Concierge if there is a concierge cabin available. Prices are usually much less than if you were to upgrade prior to the cruise date.

There is a thread around that people were posting what their upgrade prices were. there are not set prices. There is a chart at the supervisor's desk that the CM will consult that says what that cruise upgrade prices will be from original category to the category you want to upgrade to.

Also, the upgrade price is for the total for the cabin, not per person. There are not always upgrades available at the port.

Dream. 4 nights. Bahamas. 2 adults. 2 kids. We leave on Monday. Grandma cancelled and filed a claim with the travel insurance. She broke her hip and is in the hospital. She doesn't want us to pay for anything and wanted us to upgrade only if it's billed to her since all billing is under her.

I will check in like normal and ask about upgrading. Thanks!

As far as I know and in our experience the cost of the port upgrade is billed to the room. Thus, whichever credit card you have set up for your room charges on will be the one that will be charged for the room upgrade. So if you have used grandmas credit card for that it will be hers or if you used your own credit card it will be yours. If you chose cash during online check in for your onboard account then I'm not sure what the process is.

Thanks for the clarification on payment, it has been awhile since I upgraded at the port.

when we disembarked today, the concierge staff said the only room they had open for upgrade was the Roy Disney Suite. hope you got that one.

Is there a copy of the upgrade pricing chart that the supervisors have?

You can upgrade to the 4 categories, which generally only upgrades your location on the ship, not the room. Your only other upgrade before concierge is the Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. They have a bit more room than what you currently have and are located midship.
