Upgrading from DDP to Deluxe?

We're leaving May 4 for POR until May 11 and I'm tossing around the idea of either upping to Poly or upgrading to the Deluxe dining plan from DDP (1 TS, 1 QS, 1 snack) and I'm wondering if anyone has any idea how much it would cost for 2 adults and a 4 year old to upgrade to DxDP?

Thanks!

There is a sticky thread (it's labeled "free dining") with all the upgrade costs (these costs apply to paid dining too, not just free dining)

We just did this and it was about $500 maybe a bit more. Resort upgrades I would think would be much more. Though I don't know for sure. We are going to be at the poly though from the 5-11th so if you upgrade that we will see you there!

This close to your trip I'd make sure you will get ADR's at the places you want that are making you think about upgrading to the DxDP plan.

We pondered this Question in Feb - looking on-line at where we wanted to make ADR's at we found the places we wanted to go were not available at time/dates that worked well for us. We stuck with our orginal ADR's we made at 180 days out with the regular DDP.

I was looking into the prices to upgrade from the reg dining to the deluxe dining for us...since we are all over age 10, all 5 of us it was going to cost 30 more dollars per day per person, which came to $150 a day for 10 days....was too much for me to consider it...$1500 MORE to just add ONE MORE MEAL a day. We can eat a CS breakfast at our resort for less than $40 for all 5 of us, so it is not worth it to me to add a cost of $150 a day more to just get one extra meal...although that one extra meal, all 3 meals CAN BE TS meals...It still seemed like a bit too much expense for us.

It is expensive to upgrade for a long trip. But in addition to that one extra meal you get double the amount of snacks, appetizers at menu service TS locations, and a refillable mug each. I also find the flexibilty of having 3 meal credits that could be used for either CS or TS is sometimes a factor.

Do the math. Would you purchase the mugs anyway? Would you order appetizers and pay out of pocket? Are there a few Signature (2TS credit) dining locations in your plans? If your answer is yes to these the DxDDp might work for you. But it can be a lot of extra food, or extra time spent at TS restaurants, not to mention added tips paid OOP.

DxDDP is not for everyone. Even paying for the extras OOP when you want them would most likely be less than $1500!

I didn't know on the deluxe you get apps, dinner and dessert. That's a LOT of food. We never order apps or dessert, ever when we are going to dinner here at home or prob wouldn't at Disney either if we are paying OOP. We might get a few desserts since they are included on the reg DP, but wouldn't normally get them.

The only way I could see justifying the DxDP for us is if we ate every single meal at a sit down place and we used up both our snacks each for the day and used the hell out of the refillable mugs.... which we wouldn't.

I can see me telling DH, UM sweety we need $1500 more dollars for the upgraded dining plan. LOL. I don't think we will ever do deluxe. It's just too much money and way way way too much food.

I can see me easily gaining 10 pounds in 10 days eating that way. And I sure don't need that.

I am a vegetarian and usually only eat salads and baked potatoes/veggies for meals. I couldn't get my money's worth out of the reg dining plan let alone the deluxe.

Another way for the DxDP to be a value, is to dine at signature places (which many folks prefer). If you use a snack for breakfast, 1 credit for a CS place for lunch, then enjoy a 2 credit dinner (Brown Derby, California Grill, Flying Fish, Jiko etc.. or a Dinner show...HDDR.) it can be a great value. :)

That's what we're doing in June...all TS lunches and Signature dinners, with a TS breakfast on our departure day. The rest of our breakfasts will be snack items and fruit that we pick up when we make a grocery stop.

DXDP, we love it, would not do it any other way, but I can certainly see how it could be "alot" of food for some, especially the kids who want to go, go, go!:dance3:. It's not $1500 for one extra meal, it's $1500 for appetizers, desserts, signature dining if you wanted, mugs, and extra snack per day,and freedom to order what you want/where you want! One dinner for DH and I @ Narcoosees comes to $250+ (and that's just one dinner).....Lunch @ Coral Reef for DH and I, $120.......Breakfast@ MK bakery $5.00 using snack credit....=$375 for the day, 2 people!

You also need to take into account how much it will cost you in tips when considering upgrading to the Deluxe. We did the Deluxe one year and while we liked the signatures and more TS, it added a lot to our budget in tips each day.

Yes...if you were going to dine at signatures and purchase the entire three courses anyway. If you don't want what the plan offers it is probably not a value (unless you value the convenience of prepayment over saving money on food).
