Upgrading free dining package tickets to AP?

I've been reading conflicting information across the internet about this, and I have an extra caveat so figured I'd post here just to try to get the information straight.

4 adults booked for a trip in December, four-day park hopper plus free dining. Two of the adults want to upgrade those tickets to an annual pass. Is it possible to upgrade package tickets to APs? Will we still keep free dining? And are we allowed to only upgrade 2 people on the package to APs, or will everyone in the package have to upgrade?

Once you've reached your check-in day you'll be able to upgrade just the 2 people without affecting the others or your free dining.

Also the upgrade option and the per person cost will show on the MDE app as soon as you have checked in.

I did this in December. 2 of us upgraded but we did it separately, so you can definitely do just 2 of 4.
