Upgrading / Exchanging Old Park Hopper Pass

I've read through dozens of ticket upgrade posts and still can't quite get a feel for the policies in place today. Here's the situation:

Have one adult Park Hopper ticket with one day remaining (originally 6 day PH). Ticket was issued in 1999/2000 timeframe. Can this pass be traded in for credit toward the cost of a 6-day EXPIRING Magic Your Way Park Hopper pass?

If so, what is the approximate calculation method used to arrive at the amount of the credit? Is it still a prorated share of the original cost? Is it based upon today's prices?

Thanks.

Yes, it can be traded in for credit, but you are better off just using it. It is prorated using the original cost of the ticket.

Example: If you paid $100 for a 5-day park hopper & have 1 day left, you would get a $20 credit. Right now, I believe 1 day is about $60-65.

Just use the 1 day ticket as is & purchase the remainder of days you need on an additional ticket.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I know upgrades normally aren't very beneficial, but in this case I think it may work out. The tickets (there are actually two old passes) are held by some relatives who will be our guests on an upcoming trip. They haven't been to WDW in 6-7 years, thus they need exactly 6 days' park admission and no more.

According to Allears, the gate price of a 6-day PH MYW is $269. The advance purchase price of a 5-day PH MYW is $262!!! So even if they only get $20-25 in credit, the difference will still give them enough money for a counter service meal or two. ;)

I'll check some other brokers and see if a 5-day MYW PH can be had any cheaper. Maybe that will swing the pendulum in the other direction.

The other option I'm considering is offering to buy the passes myself for $30 or so. Then they can get the 6-day MYW PH as cheaply as possible from an Internet vendor (or AAA, or whatever) and I have a couple of single-day passes at a pretty reasonable price. Not sure exactly when I would use them, but it seems like a worthwhile investment given today's gate prices for single-day admission.

The information from Melsmice is inaccurate. The following is a clip and paste from the Cast Portal section on ticketing:

Upgrades: Pre-Magic Your Way Tickets
Date: 08/09/2006

Pre-Magic Your Way Tickets that have been used may not be modified or upgraded to Magic Your Way Tickets.

* Any Guests with remaining days on Pre-Magic Your Way Tickets (5-Day Park Hopper® PLUS, 6-Day All-In-One Hopper, for example) may continue to use those remaining days and entitlements.

* Any Guests who wish to add additional days to a partially used Pre-Magic Your Way Ticket should be sold a separate Magic Your Way Ticket to match the number of additional days needed.

* If Guests have unused Pre-Magic Your Way Tickets, Cast Members may delete/void the unused Tickets and use the system-derived dollar value toward the purchase of a brand new Magic Your Way Ticket. The new Magic Your Way Ticket must be of greater or equal value. Guests are responsible for paying the difference.

Cheshire Figment is correct. This is one of the 2006 ticket policy changes that Disney made. Pre-2005 tickets that have been partially used can only be used as park admissions until the ticket is exhausted. It can no longer be applied towards any new ticket.
