Upgrading at port now?

Sailing on the Dream out of Miami in a week or so. Do you check for an upgrade before you board while checking in or with guest services after boarding ship now?

We checked at the port while checking in and they sent us to an upgrade/customer service desk after getting us checked in. Felt this would be the best time to upgrade as they aren't selling anymore cabins at that point. We were the highest balcony cabin and concierge was going to be another $3k to upgrade on our cruise, so didn't have very good luck. But I've heard other people having much better luck.

Depending on the VGT room assignment we get, we may look into upgrading on the Dream this October (depends on upgrade cost)

We had the same experience on the Fantasy and the Wish - it could only be done once you were on board. We moved up on the Wish. It was not too bad $225 for our 4-day cruise to go from a regular verandah to one with a murphy bed and bigger verandah.

With people having to cancel their cruises due to testing positive they told us there was more opportunity for movement. They showed us the new room before we took the upgrade and it still had the welcome message for the family on the tv screen.

I would ask as you check in. They may send you to the supervisor's desk in the terminal or have you inquire once onboard.

Once you go into the main port lobby where you wait to board after checking in and going through security on the left you go to the supervisors desk on the very end to check for upgrades. If there are none available they will have a sign posted.

That has been the process in the past, but some people have reported recently that you needed to check for upgrades once you were on board.

If you check once on board, I assume that means guest services?

They sent us to Guest Service once on board. They put our name on a list now we wait and see.

Did they indicate how long you would have to wait for an upgrade answer or do you check into your current room then move if they have availability?
