I've redeemed our Air Miles for a 3 day basic pass. Can anyone tell me how much it costs to upgrade this pass to a park hopper?

you can also add days if you upgrade, i bought our airmiles 3 day when they were the deal of the week, and i need 5 days, so i will just add the 2 days when we get there,..

Just make sure you use the pass first before getting it upgraded. When you try to upgrade an unused pass, Disney will charge you the difference between your upgraded ticket price and what Air Miles paid Disney for the ticket you have.

If you use the ticket at least once before you upgrade, the value of the ticket changes to the current gate price (which is more than what Air Miles paid for the ticket). This means you only pay the difference between what your new ticket costs and what the current gate price of your Air Miles ticket.

There is a sticky thread at the top of the Theme Parks board that explains all about upgrading tickets.

Does this same rule apply when adding park hopper to the Air Miles pass?

I upgraded my all inclusive 7 day ticket from airmiles to an Annual pass and it was just $35. I found out what my ticket was worth at Disney online and what the price of an annual pass was. The difference was just $35 . I never used any days and Disney gave me the full value of the ticket...

So, in theory, it does. Cheshire Figment, who works at WDW in Guest Relations put this comment in the sticky thread:

"If you purchased your MYW ticket at a price less than the current gate selling price for that ticket (such as from a discounter/broker or Advance Purchase) and you wish to do any upgrade, Disney will not penalize you for the discount provided the ticket has been used. We will make an "intermediate" ticket at the current gate price, charging the difference between your old ticket and the intermediate one to an internal voucher account. Then we will take the intermediate ticket, which is at the current gate price, and upgrade it with the additional days and/or options you want, and you will only be charged for the differences in the current gate price plus tax. Note if you had paid full current gate price for your old ticket the intermediate step is not done.

If you purchased your ticket at less than the current gate price, and your ticket has not been used, you will have to pay the difference between what Disney actually sold the ticket for and the current gate price of the ticket you are upgrading to. It is always best to use one day from the old pass prior to taking it for an upgrade; you will then have locked in the current gate price as the value of the old pass."

From the PP, it appears that CM's can upgrade you at full price without you using it, so there may be variation in application of the rules. My personal experience (and others that I have seen post) has been as described above. You can always go to a Guest Relations outside the park before you use the ticket and ask how much it costs, and if the answer is more than the $45+tax, just say "No, thanks," enter the park with the ticket and go to the Guest Relations inside that park to upgrade.

EDIT: My experience was with a discount ticket broker ticket, not Air Miles. This might create a difference in experience (See my post below for why).

A thought just struck me as I read this again, as a possible answer other than inconsistent use of the rules. Maybe Air Miles pays Disney full price for the reward tickets, which would mean there was no need to use the ticket first.

If that is the case I wonder if that would be Disney not offering a discount or Air Miles deciding to do it that way and charging more points to cover the cost. I wonder...

All I can say is I got my ticket upgraded December 2007 to an AP. I am using it this December too.

I even asked if it were necessary to use the ticket first and guest services just before you enter MK said no. That is all I paid for my annual pass.

Maybe it was a Magical Moment too?:confused3

Wow, I'm surprised that it is $45 to add on the park hopper REGARDLESS of how many days the pass is for!

This doesn't seem fair to me:headache:

Have the receipt in front of me. The difference I paid from all inclusive airmiles tickets was $39. tax was $2.53.

Annual pass is $433. plus tx for total of $477.12. I looked up the price of this all inclusive ticket on disney (doesn't say the value of ticket) It was $378.63 plus tx.

So $378.63 + $41.52= $420.00 plus tx? Sound right? If it isn't, it pretty near close.

We upgraded our "Air Miles" tickets in May from 7 day to 10 day tickets, before we used them. It only cost us $6 per ticket for adults and $5 per ticket for children.

The CM at first quoted higher and then she said "that's not right" and did the upgrade at this amount. We thought it was a great deal. We saved lots of money getting our tickets this way. We have all those Airmiles anyway, why not use them for this big ticket item? I've read lots about this and someone suggested that if the CM is going to charge more then just politely say thanks, use the original ticket for the first day and then do the upgrade.

I had originally tried to get flights with Air Miles and it just didn't work out. I'm so glad I was able to get the Disney tickets.

We're going again next year and will use our Air Miles for Busch Garden tickets this time.

By the way, we opted not to get Park Hoppers this time and it worked out fine. We often took breaks during the day and went back to the same park later. We didn't regret it and saved lots of money (four adults, three children = $315 more for Park Hoppers, or lots more Airmiles).

I just purchased two 7 day unlimited Universal tickets. Each 690 airmiles. Not bad for 7 days! I already had annual pass. It expires this year. After our trip. Will save airmiles for the next two years for another as next year we are going on a Disney cruise and tickets are included!

For the past couple of years I haven't purchased ticket with money. Airmiles are paying them for me!!!!!

Air Miles only has Base Passes or ALL Included. We do not need the no expiry option.
Can you get a 7d and upgrade it to 10d and hopper?
Or do we need to get the Pass with the no expiry in order to get the hopper option.?

I would hate to use the airmiles if not needed.
thanks

You can add the hopper once you get there..... that's what we're doing as we don't need the non-expiry or water park add ons. :goodvibes
