Upgrading a park hopper to an annual pass question

As Ravenclawtrekkie had said, you absolutely do not need to use your ticket before upgrading (which is widely spread misinformation on this board).

It's not misinformation. The only scenario in which it isn't necessary to use a ticket before upgrading is the OP's scenario, where the ticket was purchased directly from Disney. And where did ravenclawtrekkie say you don't need to use a ticket before upgrading?

Look at the 3rd and 4th (and 5th) post on THIS thread from earlier this week.

Everyone is welcome to use their ticket first if that makes them happy. I was just saying it is not necessary and never has been, even though it is the common feeling on this board.

Folks honestly have no idea how many people I've talked to in real life about topics like this thread. :)

(My life is really boring.)

1. That can be a very dangerous thing to do. It will be a great advantage for you to KNOW in advance
exactly how much the upgrade should cost.

2. Any ticket booth or Guest Relations... outside any park, or at TTC or at two locations in DS/DTD.
I have always known what I have paid for tickets, until this year. We went with a travel agent for the first time who had a great discount. I suppose I could just ask her what the break down was between the room vs the tickets.

I appreciate your help and answers!!!

If your tickets were purchased as part of a WDW Resort package...
You don't need to know what YOU paid for the ticket.

You just need to know what the CURRENT PRICE from Disney is for a new ticket of the same kind that you HAVE.
Then, know what the CURRENT PRICE from Disney is for a new ticket of the same kind that you WANT.

Subtract the former from the latter, and pay that price for the upgrade.

So if I want to upgrade my park hopper ticket to an AP, I can do that before I ever use the ticket for admission? AP countdown begins after first admission, correct?

Unlike a regular ticket, the AP countdown begins on the day that you ACTIVATE your AP (pick up the actual AP ticket.)
So, if you stop by, say, DTD and activate your AP on a Wednesday night, but don't go into a theme park until Thursday, the AP would start counting down on that Wednesday.
