Hi. I'm hoping someone can help.
I have an unused 5-day hopper pass that I purchased several years ago and would like to upgrade it to an annual pass with my DVC discount.

Here is my math....
*WDW annual pass 469.00
*Less DVC discount -100.00
*Subtotal 369.00
*Less Purchase price
of 5-day Hopper -230.00
*Final Cost of annual pass $139.00

1-Can I apply the 230.00 value to an annual pass?
2-If so, can I still receive the -100.00 DVC discount?

Does anyone know if this is doable?

Thanks.

1 - Yes. As long as the pass is unused, you can apply its value to the purchase of a new DVC-discounted pass.

2- Yes, you will still receive the DVC discount if you have the proper ID with you (blue membership card & photo ID).

Actually you would want to use the pass at least once before upgrading. By doing that you will receive the current gate price of the pass rather than what you paid for it (or what it was sold to a broker for.) In your case OP, you would actually receive a credit of nearly $290 towards the purchase of an AP.

Upgrading Tickets to Annual Passes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An upgrade to an Annual Pass or Premium Annual Pass follows basically the same rules as any other upgrade of MYW tickets.

Note that any upgrade requires a cash (or cash equivalent) payment and can only be done on a one to one basis. You cannot combine the value of more than one ticket. In other words, if you had a six day base ticket and a one day base, you could not add the value of both to end up with an AP, even with additional payment. If, however, you have three tickets and are paying to upgrade each of them, this can be done on one transaction.

Any upgrade must be done at WDW at a location with access to the Automated Ticketing System (ATS). Basically this is any park (including water park) ticket window or Guest Services location, or one of the Downtown Disney Guest Services locations. The Lobby Concierge staff at the Resorts are not able to handle any AP transactions.

Guests are able to upgrade or modify their MYW tickets any time within 14 days of first use, regardless of whether the No Expiration Option is purchased. After 14 days no ticket modifications or upgrades may take place.

If you purchased your MYW ticket at a price less than the current gate selling price for that ticket (such as from a discounter/broker or Advance Purchase) and you wish to do any upgrade, Disney will not penalize you for the discount provided the ticket has been used. We will make an "intermediate" ticket at the current gate price, charging the difference between your old ticket and the intermediate one to an internal voucher account. Then we will take the intermediate ticket, which is at the current gate price, and upgrade it with the additional days and/or options you want, and you will only be charged for the differences in the current gate price plus tax. Note if you had paid full current gate price for your old ticket the intermediate step is not done.

If you purchased your ticket at less than the current gate price, and your ticket has not been used, you will have to pay the difference between what Disney actually sold the ticket for and the current gate price of the ticket you are upgrading to. It is always best to use one day from the old pass prior to taking it for an upgrade; you will then have locked in the current gate price as the value of the old pass.

If the MYW ticket has been used, the expiration date of the AP will be set to one year from the date of first use of the ticket being upgraded. If the ticket has not been used, the expiration date will be one year from the date of the upgrade.

When upgrading to Annual Pass, if the Guest's original ticket included Water Park Fun & More Option, and any part of that option was used, then the Guest may only upgrade to the Premium Annual Pass. If none of the WPF&M options were used then upgrading may be done to a regular AP.

A Florida Resident who is upgrading a "Play Three" or "Play Four" ticket may do the upgrade any time within six months of the date of first use. The Florida Resident will also have the option of a Seasonal Pass, as well as an AP or PAP.

Yes, if the unused ticket is a MYW ticket.

The OP said she had "an unused 5-day hopper pass that I purchased several years ago". If that is a ticket purchased prior to MYW (pre 1/2/2005), using it first doesn't apply, so I didn't mention it. In fact, if the OP uses the pre-2005 hopper ticket, then it cannot be used as a credit towards a pass.

Cheshire Figment gives details farther down in the thread you cited:

Dealing With Tickets Issued Prior to 2 January 2005 (Pre-MYW)

Bottom Line: Know what you have and do the math before you act

You are right, that this is not a MYW pass. It is a 5-day hopper that never expires that I purchased before 2005.

I will be reading the details of this link
Dealing With Tickets Issued Prior to 2 January 2005 (Pre-MYW)
to make sure I can get the best offering.

We plan to stay off property this visit. One of my reasons for considering the annual pass is that they previously inlcuded free parking.
Does the annual pass still include free parking at the parks? Other resorts?

The AP gets free parking. Resorts, your DVC card will get you free valet at any DVC resort.

Hi CarolMN:

I feel like I am more confused than ever now. This is what has happened so far.

You stated, "In fact, if the OP uses the pre-2005 hopper ticket, then it cannot be used as a credit towards a pass.

From this I gathered that I could exchange my unused hopper pass for an annual pass, applying the value of the hopper to the AP and paying the difference.

However, in the link you provided I saw conflicting info:

First in bold I see.....No pre-MYW ticket can be modified or upgraded in any manner.
so I think I can't apply the value of my hopper to an AP, but then it is followed by "If you have unused pre-MYW tickets you can use the original Disney selling price of one ticket as a credit to the purchase price of any current ticket with a selling price equal to or higher than the value of the old ticket. ", which indicates I can apply the value???????

Since I was confused at this point, I call WDW ticketing,....twice
The first rep said that I could not apply the value of the pre-MYW ticket to an AP.....only MYW tickets can be applied.
So I am back to know.

I called back, got a different rep. I told her the ticket was an unused 5-day hopper purchased before MYW was offered. She said sure I can, but they can't do it over the phone (I knew this part, cause they would need the ticket to exchange and determine value), but I can do it at ticketing at any gate or at DTD Guest Services.

See my dilemma? I was hoping to get an answer before arriving at the park. Can anyone clarify?

Thanks again,

Your old PH/PHP must be completely unused in order to have the value apply toward a new ticket. If you use the old PH/PHP prior to going to Guest Relations to do the transaction, you will be told that you can only use the remaining admissions as is off the ticket and you cannot apply the value towards anything.

You are not modifying or upgrading the pre-MYW PH/PHP ticket. You are using it in essence like a gift card, taking the value you paid for it as a credit towards the new ticket. But it can only be done with a completely unused PH/PHP.

Even Cheshire's sticky says that:
If you have unused pre-MYW tickets you can use the original Disney selling price of one ticket as a credit to the purchase price of any current ticket with a selling price equal to or higher than the value of the old ticket.

Calling Disney will do you little good. The people that you speak to on the phones are not the ones who do the transactions at Guest Relations every day. You can call six times and get six different answers and often none of them will be correct.

Carol's answers in post #2 and #4 is the correct information.

This is sounding like good news. It is a completely unused 5-day hopper that I bought for 230.00 plus tax. I had the money at the time and knew I would return to wdw at sometime...lol.

I actually have 2 of them so if this works out well, I will do it again with the 2nd one at a later time.

As you might have guessed by me calling a second time to WDW ticketing, that I have learned over the years that you can easily get different answers when you speak with different castmembers.

Just FYI with my math

*WDW annual pass 469.00
*Less DVC discount -100.00
*Subtotal 369.00
*Less Purchase price
of 5-day Hopper -230.00
*Final Cost of annual pass $139.00

I will be there this trip for 11 days, staying off property (I'm saving DVC points for future Tokyo trip) I would pay about $110.00 in parking, so the cost difference of 139.00-110.00 is only 29.00 to get a year of entry instead of 5 days, with free parking.

I'm always looking for a bargain...lol

Thanks again to all of you!
