Upgrading 3/4 day Florida tickets

If I buy one of the 3/4 day FL Resident tickets that has an expiration date and don't end up making the trip, are you still allowed to apply the cost you paid towards another ticket after the ticket has expired (unused)? Want to get the tickets and make FP reservations but won't know about being able to take the trip until a couple weeks before.
