Hello,

See a lot of posts about upgrades. A post earlier today was an upgrade to a VP suite. WOW, his pictures of the suite were something else!

*So how do you get an upgrade?
*Is it something you ask for at check-in, or something they automatically give you if the better rooms are available?
*Do you have to pay extra for an upgrade?
*Are upgrades only available at the resort you're at, or can you get an upgrade from a value to a moderate?
*Are you more likely to get an upgrade if you have a family of 4 or less? We travel with 6, and have to reserved 2 rooms. Is it possible to get an upgrade from 2 rooms to a suite?

What's the best upgrade you've ever received?

Thanks.

I think your chances of an upgrade to a suite are slim......to none. :rolleyes1

I just got back from the YC and got a water/lake view for the price of a standard..I just asked the Cast member at check in if an upgrade was possible.
I have been given the choice to "up-sell" to concierge for additional $50 a night, and a suite for $100 a night ( over the price I was paying for the original room). Majestic had a concierge room booked and was upgraded to the VP suite. It can happen, but I don't think from a standard to a Suite would happen.

Person who got upgraded to VP suite in AKL was already paying big $$$ for a 2 bedroom suite.

With two connecting rooms any upgrade that you're likely to get will be done before you get to the front desk. Possibly a minor view upgrade. Book what you'll be happy with.

It happened to us. Were were a group of 6 in a 2 bedroom at Boardwalk villas. I faxed a nice letter explaining that both my sister and I were married at WDW and this was our first trip back. Nothing was said about an upgrade at the desk, but when the bellboy opened the door, we were in the Grand Villa which was bigger than my house. (no joke) It was about a $800/per night complementary upgrade. This was about 7 years ago, so I'm not sure if the Fax method still works.

Congrats on all the upgrades.

We are paying AAA rate ($279 or $311 with tax) for a coutyard room at the WL. Staying for our 21st anniversary - noted on our reservations.
I would hope for a CL 7th floor great view upgrade - but who knows.

We make our own magic :wizard: with flowers :flower: :flower2: from the WDW florist, a special cake from the WL bakery, and dinner at California Grill ontop of the Contemporary.

I hope :wizard: is sprinkled on all DIS board writers.
Hey we all derserve it for sharing our advise, thoughts and dreams :cloud9:

I was the one that was upgraded to the VP suite but I did clarify that it was not free. To start, I was paying almost $1300 a night for a 2br suite and the upgrade was about $500 more. This was cheaper than an outright VP ressie, but still not even close to free. I think that upgrades probably come to those who do not ask....... I have been given good deals in the past but probably because I visit the resorts often. The more you go the better your chances!!

We had a standard WL view booked and were upgraded to a courtyard view. We didn't ask, it was already upgraded when we checked in.

We had an incredible rate on the standard view and would have been happy with that, but this was a great treat!

I know some ask at the desk if any are possible, and I was tempted to do that if we hadn't been upgraded already.

I would not go expecting or even hoping for an upgrade and just be thrilled to be there, and if something happens then it's just added magic to your trip ;)

We were upgraded at checkin at WL from a standard to conceirge for free. Immediately when we checked in they told us it was our lucky day. I was with my DH and DD's ( 2 and 1). We were not celebrating anything. It was pure luck but it had been decided before check in. I'm still trying to figure it out but we had a great time and our room had a direct view of the castle so we were able to watch the fireworks every night.

I forgot...Last November I had a Garden/Parking lot wing view at the Contemporary and was given a free upgrade to 10th Floor Tower / Magic Kingdom side...I have found that if you ask if and upgrade is possible, that they are more than happy to give it to you. I don't think I have ever been declined an upgrade when I asked, but I have heard people DEMAND an upgrade and make a big fuss and get denied.

Do you think your chances for a free upgrade are better the earlier you check-in? Seems like upgrades that are available would be on a first come first serve basis.

Also, I would assume that available upgrades would depend on how long your stay is, time of the year, how many people in your party, and how many rooms you have reserved, etc. I think they have alot to take into consideration when offering upgrades.

Boy, any free upgrade would be greatly appreciated, and power to the lucky DISERS who get them! What a nice way to start off a magical vacation.

My CR tower upgrade was for 2 nights and yes..I think the earlier you get there, the better the chances..you may have to wait for the room, but it will be worth it!

We were at WDW last Xmas for a few days between Xmas & NY (4 of us- a couple and our two teenage dau). Because of the price that time of year, we only booked one room at the Swan. Unfortunately, we had a horrible check-in experience and when we finally got our room (it was almost 8pm before we were able to get into the room) it was not what we had booked. We took our concerns to the hotel manager and she gave us a free upgrade to a suite with an adjoining room for the next two nights, so we ended up with one night in a standard room and two nights in a suite plus an adjoining room for the price of 3 nights in one standard room. I felt like we had been compensated for our difficulties.

We have stayed more than 20x between POR, CB, WL, BC and never got any upgrade. But I will never forget one of the happiest days of my whole life was when we booked an inside guarantee on the Disney Wonder and were upgraded to a Balcony when we checked in at the pier! I'll treasure that day forever. I hope everyone gets to experience that at least once.

2 years ago we had booked a standard view at the Dolphin under the RN rate for only $149.00... At check in my dh let them know we were return guests (had been there 2 weeks b4) & that we were SPG Gold members, yearly passholders and Fl residents (top that list also w/ the fact that there was a GM convention going on that we werent even aware of and that DH works for GM and showed his credentials)... They upgraded us to a corner room with the spiral balcony (so we eneded up w/ 2 balconies) and pushed us to club level all for free off of a low $149.00 a night... We had a blast for 5 nights!!!!! This is one of the major reasons I love the Dolphin & Swan :cool1:
