Upgrades?

In all the times my family and I have gone to WDW we have only been upgraded two times.

The first time was in May 2000 when we got upgraded from standard room on the Atrium Club 12th floor to a standard room on the Tower Club 14th floor at the Contemporary. At the time the 12th floor was light Club Level where as the 14th floor was full Club Level, so their services and food offerings were not the same. Anyway that was a significant upgrade at the time.

The second time was in December 2007 when we got upgraded from a Club Level Garden View to a Club Level Lagoon View at the Polynesian.

Both of those times the upgrades were totally random, so if there is a specific room you want make a reservation for it. This way you are getting exactly what you want and don't need to be disappointed if an upgrade did not happen and no one should go to WDW expecting an upgrade.

In almost 20 trips to WDW since 1997, I got my first upgrade during my Oct 2008 trip. It was at the BC concierge level and it was only from a garden view to a lagoon view. But, it was still nice and unexpected to have that slightly better room.

Has anyone tried this at disney?

We have tried this at other hotels and it works sometimes and sometimes not.

when you check in you take a 20 and put it between your credit card and license and ask if there are any upgrades available.

sometimes it works and sometimes they will give you the 20 back if there is no upgrade, i usually let them keep it anyway as a tip.

First trip I got upgraded to Water View. But it was really nothing to be too excited about. All the rooms in my area seemed to be water view. I'm sure that we could have ended up with a parking lot view, but I thought that calling what we had a water view was stretching the truth a bit. Regardless, I did spend the extra this time for a water view simply because I wanted to make sure that I didn't get a parking lot view. As a result I'm not even going to expect an upgrade this time.

Will that work at Disney? Heck, no. If anything, it'd hurt your chances. I've heard that it's a firing offense for a CM to take a bribe for an upgrade.
