Upgrades?

I know this might be a silly question, but no flames please...

What are the chances of getting an upgrade at OKW in December? And a free one at that? We are renting points for a studio, SO excited, but hey, a girl can hope right? I'd love that jacuzzi tub! I read somewhere on here about people getting free upgrades if rooms are available even w/DVC.

I have heard it said on the boards that Hilton Head is more generous with DVC upgrades...but generally, at all other DVC resorts, upgrades are extremely rare, and are only given if there is no room available in the class or size that you reserved. That usually only happens if a room has to go out of service for unexpected repairs. "Free" upgrades are virtually unheard of at DVC on point stays.

We have never, ever gotten one at DVC, but we are owners. OKW is a beautiful resort. Enjoy your stay.

IMO the chances of getting an upgrade in unit size are under 1% and IMO, it's unreasonable to ask for one at timeshares. They will not let you pay the difference and upgrade either. Enjoy your stay, I trust you'll have a great trip. I hope you'll have a car, hard to get the most out of OKW without one.

December is one of the highest occupancy months at DVC properties so that will work against you. In addition, DVC does not generally upgrade. We've been members for 11 years and have gone 2-3 times per year. We've never received an upgrade.

So no, I don't think you have any chance of an upgrade, but the OKW studios are very nice. Enjoy your stay.

The previous posters are correct in that there is virtually NO chance of getting a "free" upgrade with DVC or any timeshare, for that matter. If you ask for an upgrade, the owner will be charged extra points that you did NOT pay for, should it even be available. I can guarantee you, THAT would make the person you rented from VERY unhappy indeed! In reality though, you would not be able to even ask, since you are not the owner.

Thanks!! I only asked bc I came across a few places here where people had gotten free upgrades. Dont know the details, just what I read.

Of course I would never expect that knowing that the person I'm renting from would have to pay! I appreciate her way too much! And it does make sense that timeshares wouldnt give upgrades, free especially. Thanks for the explainations.

I'm super excited about our stay, I'm hoping it helps persuade DH that we NEED DVC in the future!!

I think the upgrades are from CRO paying people who were upgraded to 1 bedroom units at SSR and OKW when they had room and other resorts didn't.

I don't think there's any risk to the owner if a guest were to be given an upgrade unless they wre an associate on the account.
