upgrades-restort to resort?

just curious...has anyone ever been upgraded from say, a mod to a deluxe?
if so, under what circumstances?

It seems like I have read of it happening on very rare occasions. The circumstances were overbooking, I think. I suppose it could happen if there was a major problem at a resort such as plumbing failure or the like.

2 summers ago, we were upgraded from POFQ when it went down for rennovations. We were given a few options:

1 - change to any other moderate for the same price
2 - change to AKL savannah view for $10 more a night
3 - change to Poly gv for $30 more a night

Sure we had to pay for it, but we got 3 nights at the Poly for $180 extra (had 2 rooms) and 2 nights at AKL for $40 and ended up being upgraded at AKL to the 2 BR suite from there. I think I just happened into the right situation at the right time

In March we were upgraded from ASM to the Poly. We were not told why. We assume there was a problem with the reservation or there were no rooms available. We did not have to pay anything extra. They even provided the transportation to the Poly.

That happened to some family members. I think they were supposed to stay at POFQ (this was 2 times ago, not the most recent one, that they closed POFQ for renovations - I'm wondering why they're closed this place so many times?) and they stayed at AKL for the same price they were going to pay at POFQ.

I'm surprised to hear these stories; I've never heard of an upgrade to a different hotel, never experienced it. Certainly if you book a mod you should be prepared to stay in that hotel.

Certainly it happens, but it is very rare and only under unique circumstances.

I wonder if you could ever be downgraded, if your deluxe resort was overbooked and so were all the deluxes--so you were sent to a mod or value? I've never heard of that happening, only the upgrades from value or mod to deluxe
