Has anyone ever gotten an upgrade from the wings to the Tower? Also, do these rooms ever have discount codes- regular or AP? If we book the Tower, how likely would we get the MK side view- or can you see it from both sides?
We are considering going in 2005 value season- first week of February or December if that makes a difference.
This will be our first trip so I'm kind of clueless. :p

Thanks!!

Please don't think me rude but more info is needed for good answers.
Adults, kids, nights staying, number times visited WDW before, and any special occasion?
Please accept my boldness but I know that the Members of the DIS boards who are bursting with knowledge are waiting to expressed with the appropriate key words the info you are inquiring about.
My suggestion is to tell CR the special reason you are visiting the resort like, birthday celebration, aniversary, Graduatiuon, etc. and see if you can get an upsell.
ENJOY!

A friend went last September and was upgraded from the Wings to the Tower without even asking. I think it's really iffy, though, so if you are set on staying in the Tower, you should book the Tower.

I always recommend booking what you want, rather than waiting until check-in and hoping for some magic. Sometimes it happens, but it's never guaranteed.

We were not upgraded from the wings in Aug of 2001 (value season). We were able to see MK & the fireworks from our north wing room.

If you stay in the tower, you either face MK or the lake, not both.

Upgrades do happen, but not as frequently as people think. Go ahead and ask, they may give you a comp one or one with a modest charge. Just be prepared to stay in a wing room if that is what you booked.

The wing rooms really are nice! They are quiet & have some lovely views.

It will be me, DH and our 3 kids. Our first trip ever (DH went when he was little). It won't be a special occasion- just a "we finally got here" kind of celebration- we have been planning a trip since 2000 and one thing after another has come up every year. ;)

I don't expect an upgrade, just kinda wondered if it ever happens. If we really want the Tower and can swing it, that is what we will book.

I keep going back and forth about hotel choices. On one hand I think about getting a room at Downtown Disney to save money but on the other- I want this trip to be really special. Hopefully it won't be a once in a lifetime trip (with kids), but in case it is, I'd love to do it up.
We like the idea of being so close to the MK and with the monorail, what could be better? We will be happy no matter where we stay. Tower vs Wing isn't a big concern- we'll be grateful just to be in Disney.

Thanks for the replies! Any other info is appreciated- especially about discounts for this hotel.

:D :D

We booked a standard room in the Wing last year (South). When we checked in, it wreaked of smoke, so we went back to the desk and were given another room (in the wing). Got to that one and it was suppose to be ready, but looked like housekeeping was using this one as a lounge area. Went back to the desk and was given a third room (in the wing) which turned out to be smoke free. So I guess if they ever thought of upgrading us, there was ample opportunity, but no upgrades here for us. We booked a wing and we got 3 wings before settling on 1 -- took 2 hours to get it worked out. We were happy with our room--which overlooked the parking lot and monorail going into the main building. We had a CM discount on our room. But note, having a discounted room does not mean you won't get upgraded. We have been upgraded 3 times at the WL, at the AKL, and many times at POR/Dixie landing and always a CM discounted room. We didn't expect an upgrade, but did expect a smoke free room for medical reasons--we finally got it and were happy with it. There is nothing better than getting upgraded when you least expect it! But we never count on it. We book what we can afford and expect to spend our entire vacation there.
