Saturday night I finally took the plunge and upgraded from my Canon SD500 Point and Shoot to the Canon T1i DSLR. It is suppose to be here tomorrow and I cannot wait to get it in my hands and play with it.

I got a great deal on a package that included the T1i kit with 18-55 lens AND a Canon PIXMA MP980 printer. It was a great deal at $1,069 with a $300 Mail in Rebate lowering it to $769. That's price was lower than the camera alone and almost as low as the XSi?:confused3

I also ordered an extra battery, two 8GB class 6 memory cards, a lens hood, a filter kit (UV, polarizing, and warming), and a remote switch.

I have tried to learn and do as much as I could with my point and shoot and I am really excited to start learning on the DSLR :cool1:

I'm excited for ya! and I hope I can say the same soon, I'm still deciding on which camera...

You will have fun.

Watch for the weekly tutorials here on the dis. Those are fun, interesting and encourage you to go out and learn a new technique.

That *is* a great deal! Welcome to the Canon team, and don't listen to the Nikonians, Sonians, etc, you made the right choice! ;)

Thanks.... I kind of agree with you. Our first camera was a Rebel Ti 35mm... we played with that for a year or two but never really took time to learn to use it. Then we purchased a Canon SD500 Point and shoot and now the Rebel XSi. I also am on my second Canon Video Camera.. the VIXIA HF100. It would take a lot of convincing to get me to switch to something else.

I have also been to you site a few times (I lurk a lot more than I post) and your photos are great. I enjoy looking at them.

I just got the T1i about a month ago. I LOVE it! I have been having so much fun playing around with it to the point that my family has called me annoying. Everyone here on the Dis has been so helpful, so ask away with any questions you have. Try the monthly assignments. It'll really get you out there trying things you may not have thought of. And check out the tutorials that Mark has posted. They are incrediably helpful for us newbies. Share some pics when you get it in your hot hands! And :welcome: to the world of DSLR!

I hope you have a great time with it! :goodvibes

Even though I am a Nikon user, I have heard very positive things about the T1i! Congratulations. Just be careful, because now the lens lust begins!

Oh yeah, lens lust! I had my camera a week and went and got the 50mm f/1.8. Keep an eye on your wallet!;)
