Upgraded room?

Anyone ever get a free room upgrade?

Why?

I am happy with the plain rooms at the Poly, but I wonder if they do give upgrades and for what reasons?

Sometimes it happens. I'm not sure if there is an exact reason why but I know one time at the Poly we got upgraded to club level. Probably because we were only staying 2 nights and then moving to a different resort. It also happened to us once at AKL, also a time we were only staying 1 night before moving to a different resort.

Yeah,upgraded view at YC several times, upgraded to CL at YC from garden view, upgraded from atrium club theme park view to tower club 1 bedroom suite theme park view at the CR, upgraded from garden view to lagoon view or theme park view at GF several times. Every time it's been unexpected yet appreciated.

It's generally for the resort's operational reasons - they need the room you would have otherwise been assigned to. It's really just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

I love this link. The reading was entertaining and hilarious. While everyone said it's pure luck, I've been "lucky" 100% of the time we've stayed at AKL which translates to 9 different times as of this past June. I've always booked a standard view room, but I've never stayed in a standard view room as we always get upgraded to Savanna view room. If we didn't get the upgrade, we'd be ok with it too. This was the view from our "standard view room" 2 months ago at AKL:

I feel that they are more common during Value season when the resort is not full as these are the times we've gotten them. The fact is that nobody on here knows how/why they give room upgrades - they just happen for whatever reason. Sometimes I feel that it's to entice you on staying at an upgraded room during your future visit(s). But who knows.....

Booked WL CL "standard" woods view and we were surprised when we got to the room and found we had a courtyard view!
We checked in on the Wednesday before Easter and stayed thru to the Tuesday after...wall to wall guests that weekend so I doubt there was an abundance of rooms for upgrading but we were lucky.
