I was wondering if upgrades ever happen upon arrival? From studio to 1 br, from 1 br to 2 br? From standard to boardwalk?

If your stay is booked on points, upgrades are very rare. They generally happen only if there is some unforeseen maintenance issue. Most of those that were reported here were from standard to preferred (at BWV) and that was during the rehab period. Ocassionally, you might hear of an upgrade to a larger room - most of those were cash customers. I've not heard of an upgrade from standard view to Boardwalk view and would be surprised to hear of one. Seems like they would upgrade a Preferred customer first and then only if there wasn't a waitlist for BW view.

Best wishes -

Upgrades for members are VERY rare. Due to the way our points are commited and our reservations booked it is no simple task for a resort to offer a complimentary upgrade. That being said, in the case of an engineering disaster or some other unforseen problem a resort can upgrade a member, but only as a last resort. Non-member reservations are always upgraded first. Not because the resorts descriminate against members, but because on a non-member's reservation it is as simple as changing the room catagory and over-riding the rate (this can not be done on a member's reservation). We have been members since '91 and have never experienced a complimentary upgrade. The closest thing we have had was when we booked a Grand Villa at OKW and they had over-sold. We ended up in two 2 Bedroom villas at no charge (talk about a point savings!).

Thank you. I'm new to DVC stay, but what you say makes sense. Just that since I booked, the baby who was sleeping through the night is now not, and wall between him and the others would be nice. Maybe if we wear him out during the day, he will sleep through the night!

Our last stay in a studio our daughter was only 10 months old and not used to sleeping in strange places (or a pack-n-play for that matter). Suffice it to say that the first night of our stay did not go so well. I think she finally fell asleep around 3:00AM. My wife was ready to go home right then and there, but we stuck it out. The second night, after a full day in the parks, went much more smoothly. She was asleep by 11:00PM. So I guess the moral of the story is don't let your first night discourage you. It should get better.

On a related note, I have seen fathers out walking their children in a stroller around OKW in the middle of the night. I would imagine this was so the other members of the family could get some sleep while the baby settled down. Some babies will fall asleep better in a moving stroller and then you can simply wheel them into your room and leave them in the stroller next to your bed.

thank you for the good ideas. And my five year old can sleep thorugh anything, so it'll prob. work out ok. If not, dad will not mind snoozing in the room during the day with the younger one, while we ride It's a Small World seven times in a row!!

My DH was one of those guys! He was walking DS in the stroller around a very dark OKW at 3:00 AM! After that night, DS slept fine. All those rides, sights, and sounds do make little ones (and not-so-little ones) tired.
