Last cruise was booked on the 4 night Wonder exactly 60 days in advance (long story as to why the comparatively late booking, compared to the next cruise which was booked in '03) as a cat. 8 GTY. Then got a Cat. 8 stateroom # within a few days. Then 30 days out from embarkation got an email and voicemail confirming an upgrade from 8 to a 5, albeit a solid wall cat. 5, #7132. Doc's came with the cat. 8 stateroom #, but just crossed that out and wrote in the cat. 5 room with a marker on the luggage tags. And the bon voyage champagne package I had ordered was indeed in our cat. 5 stateroom waiting for us when we walked in at 1:30, as soon as the corridor was opened to guests. The january sailing date may have decreased demand enough to have allowed the upgrade.
We had never had a verandah on any previous cruises, so it was nice to sample w/o paying the premium price, but we did not like the solid wall and agreed that we would not pay for a solid wall verandah (and that would include a cat. 7, naturally, except for the couple of plexiglass rooms recategorized as 7's. We're in our usual 8 in a week and a half, and I do not expect any upgrading, this being a popular spring break week.
