Upgrade

Disney overbooked! My agent got a call today for my reservation for AKL for Aug. 3 thru Aug. 8 and said they were upgrading us to a studio at SS.

What does everyone think about this? Never stayed there at either AKL or SS? But my girl was soo looking forward to AKL. Loves animals! But because it's Disney and we bought thru VacationsToGo. Can they move us? Should I stick to my guns?

You can tell them you don't want it. They will ask someone else if they would like to stay at Saratoga Springs.

How do you know that they overbooked?

SS is a nice resort, but WAY too huge and spread out for my liking. If I had a car with me it might be ok. To me this isn't the best upgrade ever. I would tell them you want to stay at AKL.

I agree...I'd try for something different or at least request a 1bdrm @ SSR.

I'd see if you can get the Poly or Beach Club. Or a 1BR at OKW or SS. Even though a studio at SS is more expensive than an AKL room, I think the animals and the decor of AKL trump the SS kitchenette.

To me, that's not an "upgrade." An upgrade would be to a better room at the same resort, or a better (bigger) room at a "better" (v. subjective) resort.

If you really want AKL, I would tell them you want to stay there.

If you booked at Savannah View than it is not an upgrade, imho.

It may be a more expensive room. If I really wanted to stay at AKL, I would speak up. I haven't stayed at either resort, but I visited both resorts. think I would like AKL more.

We were just at SSR in May and I will never go there again. It's way too spread out and the restaurant choices are not very good.
I'd try to stay anywhere else.
It's not an upgrade.

I wouldn't do the upgrade to SSR from AKL. If you love animals, then decline the offer. If your interested in staying at a different delux resort, like BC, YC, BW, or one on a monorail. I'd ask for that. I like SSR and all, but if you love animals there is nothing like it.

I would be disapointed being an animal lover going from AKL to SSR.

They did this a LOT last summer. The DVC construction forced them to move many guests. Personally, I wouldn't stay at SSR. I'd ask for a Epcot or MK resort. Last summer, many folks got the BC/YC or the Poly. This is your vacation, stay where you want.

SSR is a lovely resort. But no way is a SSR studio and upgrade from an AKL room.

1) What a bad deal.
2) Go to SSR when you booked AKL.
3) I would not accept such a change.
4) If they want me out of AKL or WL, the new place better be Poly or GF ! ! !

Actually that sounds like a serious DOWNGRADE if you ask me!

SSR is not really a deluxe resort, AKL definitely is! We stayed at SSR last January and complained about the lack of room service (no breakfast in bed, or any other meal unless you're cooking it!) and were disappointed in the number of restaurants and the resorts inability to do something nice for our anniversary (DH asked for some flowers and such to be delivered to me and they said they couldn't really do much as they don't have access to these sort of things). We were told that things like those are for DELUXE resorts and that SSR isn't really properly characterized as such! The CM went on to explain that this was why there aren't robes in the rooms, room service, etc. Its really a DVC resort that recently began allowing regular guests to fill voids. Often Disney has deals on these rooms as they don't book as fast as the other resorts in the price category - this is for a reason!

I would NOT accept this change and demand something more comparable to what you've booked - If they are going to force you to move, you should have some say as to where that is!

I would not allow them to change me to SS without a protest of some sort. SS is beautiful but its spread out, caters to golfers and is close to Downtown Disney. There are numerous resorts that they can offer you to make your stay magical. I hope they do the right thing for you.

I agree that this sounds like a downgrade. So I would either say no I want to keep the reservation at the Animal Kingdom Lodge or to be upgraded at another Deluxe Resort with a better room then what you were getting at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

What is up with these changes lately! At least they called your travel agent, but did they ask if they could change your ressie or just tell you it was being changed? Out of the blue we received a new email confirmation and I had to call and wait on hold for 45 minutes to find out what the heck was going on. I do not like this system at all! So many of us spend so much time planning and researching just the right hotel and dates...I just don't think it's right that they randomly change things.

Sounds like a downgrade to me. I would stay at AKL or insist on the Poly or YC/BC -- whichever is your preference - but wouldn't accept this.

An upgrade would be a 1bdr villa at SS not a studio.I agree with all the PP you should definitely have some say in this.
