Hi. I have 4/3 free at POR. For me to go up tp Grand Floridian Garden View it would be an additional $800. Is it worth it? Why or why not? Also we are 2 adults (me and my sister, and 3 children ages 5,7,8). I would be paying the extra $800. What are your opinions?:confused3

Heck yeah, I'd do it!!
I originally booked POR but the more I looked at that huge sprawling resort, all the bus stops, and considered the buses always pick up POFQ first I was pushed over the edge. Now we're staying at the CR...I want to use buses as little as possible and maximize my park time. :thumbsup2

I wouldn't...but that is me (we don't like the GF). However, if it will be easier for you with the kids and the money isn't an object, then go for it. As for the POR being sprawling, you can be on the far end of a deluxe as well and have a hike to the main entrance or the pool, etc.

I would do it if you can afford the upgrade! I think the deluxe resorts are worth the extra. You'll be on the monorail for 2/4 parks which will be nice. If you are all in one room, the room at the deluxe will be bigger as well. Nothing is WRONG with POR, but I think you'll have a great time if you upgrade. Let us know what you decide! :goodvibes

George The 4/3 deal is really a great savings and to be able to use it at a deluxe resort is terrific!! The GV at the GF is very lovely...views of the marina are considered GV also...

The buildings are all in pretty close proximity to the main building and the grounds are easy to navigate...not a very far walk to get to anything IMO...

If you take a look at one of the old GF FAQ threads there are maps on the first page...this will give you a better idea...

The GF is a beautiful luxorious resort...the grounds are so nice...there are two beautiful pool...many great restaurants and shops too...

As for atmosphere...listening to the pianist or the orchestra playing in the lobby in the evening is a wonderful way on end a busy day...

I am obviously a big fan!!! Good luck with your choice...the good thing about disney is that there are so many...:flower3:

As if I havent said enough I just wanted to add that we are a family of 5 also and the rooms are comfortable and spacious...

For just over $100 per day, I really do think it would be worth it.
I've never stayed at POR but I've been staying at the GF for years and it's awesome :cutie: Deluxe resorts have added amenities. And the extra square footage in the room would make it worth it, IMO with 5 people :crowded: Also, you won't believe how easy it is to get to the MK from the GF :wizard:
Good luck either way!

I have stayed at both the POR and the GF - and I would definitely pay an extra $800 for 7 nights at the GF!

As the pp's have said, the deluxe resorts have extra amenities that make the cost worthwhile: larger rooms, inside hallways, balconies, room service, pool bar, more shopping opportunities. And the GF in particular has so many restaurant options - 5 table service, Gasparilla's (24-hr. counter service) and 24-hour room service menu, along with snacks at the pool bars. Activities like Sea Raycers and pontoon boats and fishing excursions. Easy access to the other monorail resorts.

And as johnsonet pointed out, can't beat that trip to the MK - one monorail stop away!:goodvibes

Go ahead and do it. We almost always book at the GF, as it is a Grand resort with unsurpassed service IMHO. Plus, the rooms are a bit larger.

How many nights are you staying? I am shocked that the difference for a week is only $800.....wow....is it only for a coule nights?

I would not because I don't think the GF is that much fun for kids. It looks nice, and it has great restaurants, but I think you'd have more fun for less money if you stay where you are.

I would upgrade to the Poly or BWI but not the GF

If the promo is over how can you now upgrade? I know I thought about changing resorts last year after we had booked the free dining, and the deadline had come and gone and the only way they would have allowed it is if there happened to be one of those rooms availabel that they had set aside for the free dining package. I personally don't care for GF either, however given the chance and that amount I would upgrade to a deluxe. I am so looking forward to CR this year!

DO IT!!!

That being said, I am telling EVERYONE that asks YES, Move from POR, it's where we'll be and less people at the food court and pool :lmao::lmao:
Just kidding!

It is a lovely resort if you can afford it, I'd say DO IT!

I, too, question whether there is any availability left. It may be a moot question. Have you called and confirmed that there are any 4/3 nights available at the GF for your dates?

I was able to upgrade my 4/3 room from POR to CR about a week ago - so indeed after the promo ended. There was availability at Poly as well at that time, but I did not ask about GF. Seems like CR was the hardest to upgrade to and there were no MK views left but I still got Bay View in the main tower.

If the money is not a problem, I would definitely upgrade. The rooms are bigger, you'll have two queen beds and a daybed (which looks like it converts very nicely for sleeping!), whereas at POR you will have full size beds and the trundle is basically a thin mattress on the floor from what I've heard. You'll be right on the monorail, so it will be so much easier to get around, and so close to MK. Plus you'll always have the chance to stay at POR in the future, but how often are you going to get the GF for such a great deal? We were going to stay at CSR but decided to upgrade to the GF since we've always wanted to stay there and this was just a great opportunity to do so for so much less $$ than normal!
